Zips Edge Golden Eagles, Improve To 4-2

Akron 74, Oral Roberts 64

AKRON, Ohio – Quincy Diggs and Demetrius "Tree" Treadwell led three Akron players in double figure points as the Zips topped visiting Oral Roberts 74-64 on Monday night at James A. Rhodes Arena.
Diggs finished with a team-high 19 points to go with seven rebounds, while Treadwell tallied his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 boards. Treadwell, who made 7-of-15 shots from the field, also had two blocks and two steals in 34 minutes as starter. Diggs, who was 8-of-10 from the line, amassed his point total in 28 minutes off the bench.
Reggie McAdams finished the game with an important eight points of his own, sinking back-to-back 3-pointers to help Akron (4-2) break a 52-all tie with 9:18 left to play.
Shawn Glover led Oral Roberts (5-6) with 21 points.
After trailing by single digits for most of the game, Oral Roberts took a brief 51-50 lead with 10:49 remaining. It was the Golden Eagles' first lead since the 14:54 mark of the first half (7-5). It was McAdams' pair of 3-pointers that gave Akron some cushion. The Zips would increased their lead to a game-high 12 points with 1:04 remaining after UA broke the press to set up a Nick Harney dunk that made the score 73-61.
Both teams made frequent trips to the foul line as the Zips recorded 23 fouls to the Golden Eagles' 29. Akron shot 56.3 percent (18-of-32) from the charity stripe, while Oral Roberts made 60.7 percent (17-of-28).
UA shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field for the night and forced ORU into 20 turnovers, which tied for the most by a Zips' opponent this season. The Golden Eagles made 42.6 percent (23-of-54) of their attempts from the floor as they lost for the third-straight time.
The Zips will close out a three-game homestand on Dec. 18 when they play host to Detroit at 7 p.m. ET.
