Men's Swimmer of the Week
Paul Le, Missouri State, Junior
Le helped Missouri State to a third-place finish at the TYR Invitational at Northwestern’s Norris Aquatics Center this weekend … Le was the second-highest individual point producer, scoring 92 points of the seven-team meet, which included Big Ten powers Northwestern and Michigan State … Le won a team-high four events (200 IM, 50 backstroke, 100 back and 200 back) … Won the 200 IM, 100 and 200 back events in NCAA consideration times of 1:47.41, 47.09 and 1:43.42, respectively … in the 50 free prelims Friday, Le set the school record in 20.22 … Le became the national leader in the 100 back in the Saturday final … He also helped the Bears to second-place finishes in the 400 medley relay (3:15.10), 200 medley relay (1:28.09) and 200-free relay (1:21.35).
Women's Swimmer of the Week
Victoria Griffin, Bowling Green, Freshman
Freshman Victoria Griffin set a school record in the 100 freestyle, reached an NCAA “B” cut, and picked up two first place finishes, a second place and a pair of third place results at the TYR Invitational, hosted by Northwestern University. Competing against eight other teams in Illinois, Griffin became the first BGSU swimmer to ever finish the 100 freestyle in under 50 seconds, winning the event in 49.87 and reaching the NCAA’s “B” cut for the event. She was also part of the 200 freestyle relay team that finished first and a member of the 400 freestyle relay team that was second. Griffin finished third in the 50 freestyle and as part of the 400 medley relay team.
Laurin Williams, Ohio, Senior
Williams won the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:36.24, helping the Ohio University swimming & diving team (3-1, 2-0 MAC) finish fourth of seven squads at the 2013 H2Okie Invitational in Christiansburg, Va. She also took fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 4:55.81 and finished ninth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:24.50. The Bobcats will return to competition in 2014, traveling to Denison for a dual meet on Jan. 11. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
Brittney Kuras, Buffalo, Senior
Brittney Kuras won two individual races and was part of four winning relay teams at the Cleveland State invite. Kuras won the 100 freestyle with a meet and pool record time of 49.94. She also won the 50 freestyle with a meet record time of 23.33. Kuras was also part of four winning relay teams – the 400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay, 800 freestyle relay and 200 freestyle relay.
Till Pallmann, SIU, Sophomore
Sophomore Till Pallmann secured two top-five individual finishes for the Salukis while the team split up to compete in the Mizzou Invite hosted by the University of Missouri. Competing teams included Arkansas, UC-Davis, Utah, as well as nationally ranked Texas A&M (22) and host Missouri (18). The Zweibrucken, Germany native finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:37.10 and fourth in the 100 freestyle at 44.49.
Dan O'Connor, Senior, Buffalo
Dan O'Connor broke a pair of school records en route to winning three individual events and anchoring a winning relay team at the Cleveland State Invite. O'Connor won the 500 freestyle with a school record time of 4:27.47. The UB señor also broke the school record in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 15:17.19 – shattering the previous record of 15:31.55. O'Connor's third individual title came in the 400 individual medley, setting a new meet record with a time of 3:55.78. He also anchored the winning 800 freestyle relay team.
Ashton Bishop, University of Evansville, Junior
This past weekend, UE Junior Ashton Bishop competed in the House of Champions meet and added on to his successful season this weekend. Bishop led UE to a fifth place finish in the event by finishing in eight place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.84, his second best time of the season, first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.83, which was his best time of the season, and third place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.91, also his best time of the season.
