Men's Swimmer of the Week
Paul Le, Missouri State, Junior
Le helped Missouri State to a second-place finish at the Show-Me Showdown at the Mizzou Aquatics Center Friday, Oct. 4, to open the season … Le won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:49.26 and 100-yard backstroke in 48.50 … His backstroke time is currently fourth best in the country behind swimmers from Florida, Michigan and Florida State … Also won the 400 freestyle relay with Uvis Kalnis, Vitalii Baryshok and Caleb Schuermann in 3:01.81 … Part of the 200 medley relay team that finished second in the event in 1:30.86 … Le swam the opening leg in 22.74 … MSU did not compete this week.
Women's Swimmer of the Week
Brittney Kuras, Buffalo, Senior
Brittney Kuras won four individual events and was part of two winning relay squads at the Western New York Invite. She won by more than a second in the 50-yard free, winning with a time of 23.47. She then swam a time of 1:05.98 in the 100-yard breaststroke to win by more than two seconds. She then opened the afternoon session with a win in the 100-yard free and took home the 100 fly. She was part of the winning 200 medley relay team, finishing with a time of 1:49.79. To cap the day, she anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay.
Rachel Johnson, Toledo, Senior
Won three individual events in team’s win at Denison – 100 Yard IM (59.19), 200 Yard IM (2:08.02), and 400 Yard IM (4:32.65). Her time in the 200 Yard IM broke the previous pool record of 2:08.62. Also helped the 200 Yard Freestyle A Relay team to a victory with a time of 1:37.39.
Beth Rogers, Toledo, Senior
Won three individual events and two relay events in the Rockets’ win at Denison – 50 Yard Butterfly (26.09), 100 Yard Butterfly (57.95), 200 Yard Butterfly (2:08.32), 200 Yard Medley Relay (1:49.74), and 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:37.29).
Ashton Bishop, Evansville, Junior
University of Evansville junior Ashton Bishop is ranked in the top five times among Mid-American Conference in two events after this past weekend. Bishop is ranked first in the 50 Freestyle SCY Male with a time of 21.26, which was .9 seconds better than the second-ranked swimmer. Bishop is also ranked fifth in the 100 Freestyle SCY Male with a time of 46.97, which is only 1.49 seconds off of the top-ranked swimmer. In addition Bishop is a member of the Dean’s List at UE.
Dan O'Connor, Buffalo, Senior
It was quite a debut for men's swimmer Dan O'Connor. The senior transfer from North Carolina easily won both of his races in the Western New York Invite - his first meet as a Bull. O'Connor broke the school record in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:20.29. He defeated the second place finisher by an astounding 26 seconds. O'Connor also won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:34.77 – eight seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
