Ahart took home the individual title at the UB Stampede Invite on Saturday afternoon as he blazed through the 8K course in 25:44. Ahart dominated the rainy and sloppy course, finishing 34 seconds ahead of the next finisher, fellow teammate Cameron Bruce. Ahart improved on his second-place finish at the same event from a year ago.

Victoria Voronko, Eastern Michigan, Junior

Voronko has led the way for the Eagles in every race of the 2013 season, and set the pace in the George Dales Invitational, Sept. 20, for the 18-42 win over Western Michigan. Voronko finished more than one minute ahead of the next competitor and nearly two minutes before the first Bronco finisher.

Melinda Sawnor led all Kent State runners at the 19th annual John “Paddy” Doyle/Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park last Saturday afternoon. Sawnor posted a 23:23.06 to earn 14th overall out (20 teams 190 individual runners). Sawnor came in 21st at the meet last season with a 23:33.13.

Junior Jess Hoover was Miami’s top finisher for a third consecutive week at the Wake Forest Invitational Friday evening. Competing against a field of ACC teams and conference rival Ohio in Miami’s first 6K of the season, Hoover finished sixth overall in a personal-best 21:19.60. Hoover helped Miami to a third-place finish at the meet behind nationally ranked Florida State and Ohio.
Chrissy Clarkin, Buffalo, Junior

Junior Chrissy Clarkin of the women’s cross country team claimed the individual title at a rainy and cold UB Stampede Invite on Saturday, winning in 18:24. She finished 24 seconds ahead of her fellow teammate Gabby Leo who took second-place. Clarkin has now collected a first-place finish and second-place finish in the Bulls first two meets.
