Men's Runner of the Week

Dave Wing, Miami, Senior

Event Name: Bluegrass Cross Country Invitational

Finish in Event: 11th

Finishing Time: 24:17.21

Senior Dave Wing led the RedHawks Saturday morning at the Bluegrass Invitational, taking 11th overall in the team’s first 8K of the season. Competing against nationally ranked teams Oklahoma State and Eastern Kentucky, Wing held his own, finishing first for Miami in a career-best 24:17.21. He shattered his best 8K time from last season when he paced the Red and White at the 2012 All-Ohio Championships in 24:52.80.

 

Women's Runner of the Week

Victoria Voronko, Eastern Michigan, Junior

Event Name: Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener

Finish in Event: Second

Finishing Time: 17:08.78

Victoria Voronko paced the Eagles and led all competitors from the Mid-American Conference with her second place finish in the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener, Friday, Sept. 13. Coming in after Youngstown State’s Samantha Hamilton, Voronko was the only runner from EMU to nab a top-10 performance.

Ian Hancke, Eastern Michigan, Redshirt Junior

Event Name: Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener

Finish in Event: Third

Finishing Time: 25:28.33

Ian Hancke was the top finisher from the Mid-American Conference in the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener in Bowling Green, Ohio, Friday, Sept. 13. Though the event was not scored, EMU turned out a strong performance, placing three of their runners in the top-10, the most of any school.

 

Nate Ghena, Central Michigan, Sophomore

Event Name: Spartan Invitational

Finish in Event: Fifth

Finshing Time: 24:58

Sophomore Nate Ghena ran a career-best 24:58 in the 8k at the Spartan Invitational to finish fifth. For the second time this season Ghena has ran a career-best. At the first competition of the season Ghena ran a 5k career-best 15:48, crushing his previous personal best of 16:35.

 

Jess Hoover, Miami, Junior

Event Name: Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener

Finish in Event: Third

Finishing Time: 17:11.91

Junior Jess Hoover continues to pace the RedHawks this season, taking first for Miami and third overall at Bowling Green’s Mel Brodt Collegiate Invitational. Hoover got out in front like she did at the 2013 Miami Invitational, pacing the front-runners from Youngstown State and Mid-American Conference (MAC) foes Toledo and Eastern Michigan. Hoover took third in 17:11.91, a couple seconds faster than her season-opener 5K time of 17:13.6.

 

Krista Parks, Central Michigan, Senior

Event Name: Spartan Invitational

Finish in Event: Eighth 

Finishing Time: 21:32

Senior Krista Parks continued her strong start to the 2013 campaign at the Spartan Invitational with an eighth place finish in the women’s 6k race, crossing the finish line with a time of 21:32.

 

Aisha Hodge, Western Michigan, Senior

Event Name: Spartan Invitational

Finish in Event: 20th

Finishing Time: 22:41

Hodge took 34 seconds off of her time from last year’s Spartan Invitational to finish as WMU’s No. 1 runner on the day. She has been at the top for the Broncos each race so far this season.

 

Courtney Edon, Ball State, Junior

Event Name: Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener

Finish in Event: 35th

Finshing time: 18:35.35

Junior Courtney Edon led the Cardinals at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener with a time of 18:35.35 … It marks the second-straight race Edon has led the Cardinals to the finish line.

 

Ali Olson, Northern Illinois, Sophomore

Event Name: Illinois State Invitational

Finish in Event: 16th

Finishing Time: 18:19.24

Sophomore Ali Olson continued her strong start to the 2013 season Friday by placing 16th at the Illinois State Invitational in Normal, Ill. Her finish was tops among all NIU runners and currently stands as the fastest 5K time for the Huskies this season.
