MAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Ross VanderPloeg, Western Michigan – Senior, Holland, Mich.
Western Michigan senior Ross VanderPloeg recorded a 3-1 record over the weekend, helping them to victories over Valparaiso and Youngstown State in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. VanderPloeg opened the day with a pair of wins against the Crusaders, teaming with Jim Beckwith to beat Michael Savaglio and Michael Baiocchi in the No. 3 doubles match. He followed with a dominant win in the No. 2 singles match, downing Chris Baum 6-1, 6-1 and helping the Broncos to a 7-0 win. VanderPloeg was similarly dominant in his second singles match of the day, helping the Broncos to a 5-2 win over Youngstown State with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sebastian Hagn in the No. 2 singles.

Damien David, Buffalo – Sophomore, Montreal, Quebec
Buffalo sophomore Damien David won both his singles and double matches in Buffalo’s 4-3 win over Cleveland State on Saturday. In singles, he defeated Cleveland State’s Matt Kuelker, 6-4, 6-2. David also combined with Akhil Mehta for an 8-4 win over Ali Shabib and Niklas Johnson at first doubles as the Bulls claimed the all-important doubles point. David leads the Bulls with 11 doubles wins this season and he and Mehta are 4-1 this spring as the number one combo.
