MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Angelina Jogasuria, Akron – Senior, Serpong, Indonesia (St. John’s High School)
Akron senior Angelina Jogasuria finished last weekend with an overall record of 4-0 (2-0 singles, 2-0 doubles) and helped extend the team's win streak to four matches, including a 4-3 victory over East Tennessee State on Friday and 4-3 decision versus 69th-ranked Oregon on Sunday. When partnered with Prang Pantusart, Jogasuria makes up half of the Zips' No. 1 doubles pair that is 9-0 this season and ranked 43rd nationally. Last weekend, the Akron duo posted an 8-1 win over ETSU's Lyn Yee Choo and Anna Gerbasi, and an 8-4 decision over Oregon's Patricia Skowronski and Nicole Long. The Zips' win of the doubles point over the Ducks was pivotal in helping the squad claim its first defeat of a nationally ranked foe since February 2012, and Jogasuria's three-set, last-match-on-court 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Skowronski clinched match point in dramatic fashion and ended Oregon's eight-match win streak. Skowronski is ranked 101st nationally in singles. On Friday, Jogasuria won 7-6 (3), 6-4 against ESTU's Guilia Andreazza at No. 1 singles.
Nelle Youel, Northern Illinois – Sophomore, Crystal Lake, Ill. (Crystal Lake Central High School)
Northern Illinois sophomore Nelle Youel continued her unbeaten streak at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles by sweeping her six matches in Northern Illinois road wins at IUPUI, Indianapolis and Butler. Youel lost only five games in singles all week in her three victories to improve to 9-0 at No. 1 singles for the Huskies. In doubles, Youel and partner Arantza De La Torre were tested versus Butler before winning 8-6, after taking their previous two matches by 8-1 and 8-2 scores to keep their season mark at a pristine 9-0. Youel's wins helped lead Northern Illinois to 6-1, 7-0 and 6-1 scores as the Huskies have won five straight matches and are 8-1 on the young spring season.
Kathleen Hawkins, Western Michigan – Junior, Portage, Mich. (Hackett Catholic Central High School)
Western Michigan junior Kathleen Hawkins was simply dominant last weekend, posting a 5-0 overall record over three matches and helping the Broncos to wins over IUPUI and Bradley, as well helping them compete tightly with a strong Youngstown State team.
