MAC Announces Gymnast and Specialist of the Week

Gymnast of the Week 
Marie Case, Kent State
Junior, Erie, Pa. (Mercyhurst Prep)
Took home three of the five events for the third straight week, leading the Golden Flashes to victory over Rutgers 195.675-193.700. Case earned a 9.850 to tie for first place on the floor exercise. She also tied for first on the balance beam when she received a 9.825 from the judges. Rounding out her day Case posted a 9.850 on the uneven bars, good for third in the event. She also scored a 9.625 on the vault, finishing ninth. Case’s totals for the day also led to her winning the all-around when she had an overall total of 39.200.

Specialist of the Week 
Rachel Guida, Kent State
Senior, Cumberland, R.I. (Brestyan's Gymnastics)
Had a fantastic performance as Kent State defeated Rutgers 195.675-193.700. Guida posted a 9.825 on the vault, taking second place in the event. That score tied her career best. In her other event of the day, the uneven bars, Guida received a 9.900 to tie her personal best.

Other Nominees: 
Leah Wilson, Ball State
Junior,  Eustis, Fla. (Eustis)
Leah Wilson won the beam with a 9.75 in Ball State’s meet at Eastern Michigan to propel the Cardinals to a 3-0 start in Mid-American Conference action….In addition, the Cardinals have won five straight competitions and improved to 5-2 on the season…

Angie Hosbach, Ball State
Junior,
  Coldwater, OH (Coldwater)
Angie Hosbach helped Ball State to a fifth straight victory and to improve to 3-0 in the Mid-American Conference with a win at Eastern
Michigan Saturday…Hosbach won the bars with a 9.75 and tied for second on the floor with a 9.80 and tied for fourth on the beam with a 9.70.

Alyssa Nocella, Bowling Green
Freshman, Gilbertsville, Pa.( Boyertown Area)
Nocella led the Falcons to a second road victory on the year, this time versus Lindenwood, where the Falcons won by a score of 192.850- 192.050. Nocella won the floor exercise title, sticking her tumbling to post a season-high 9.85. She also took second in the all around, scoring 38.600 over four events. She scored 9.7 on vault, 9.7 on beam and 9.35 on bars in addition to her floor exercise win.
 
Amanda Lievendag, Bowling Green
Sophomore, Baldwin, Md. (Fallston)
Amanda Lievendag won her fourth uneven bars title of the year in Bowling Green’s 192.850-192.050 win over Lindenwood on Saturday. Lievendag scored 9.775 in the anchor position to lead the Falcons on bars. She added another 9.775 on vault, earning her second place on the event.
 
Brittany Petzold, Central Michigan
Junior,  Shelby Township, Mich. (Eisenhower HS)
Competing in the all-around for the first time this season, junior Brittany Petzold captured the title, totaling a 39.075 to help No. 21 CMU to a MAC win over Northern Illinois. The reigning MAC all-around champion’s top performance came in the vault where she claimed a share of the title, winning the event with a score of 9.825. Petzold also tied for third in the floor exercise (9.800), her second top three finish in the event this season, and placed sixth in the uneven bars (9.750) and balance beam (9.700).
 
Emily Heinz, Central Michigan
Junior, Gilbertsville, Pa. (Boyertown Area)
Junior Emily Heinz played a key role in No. 21 CMU’s MAC win over Northern Illinois last weekend. She placed first in the balance beam, topping the field with a score of 9.800 for her first title win of the season. Heinz also posted the Chippewas third-highest score in the vault, finishing in fourth place with a score of 9.750.
 
Khadijah Hudson, Eastern Michigsn
Freshman, Hebron, Ky. (Conner)
Eastern Michigan freshman Khadijah Hudson turned in an impressive performance against Ball State, Feb. 9. She led the Eagles in two events including a win on the floor exercise with a career-high 9.85. The Hebron, Ky. native also paced her team on the vault with a 9.775 for third place while also recording a personal-best 9.550 on the beam.
 
Kristina Kurkmilis, Eastern Michigan
Senior,
 Eagleville, Pa. (Methacton)
Eastern Michigan University senior Kristina Kurkmilis recorded a career-high 9.800 on the floor exercise, good enough for a runner-up finish in the event against Ball State, Feb. 9. On Senior Night at EMU, Kurkmilis also scored a 9.750 on the vault to tie for third with fellow teammate and senior, Amanda Fuller.
 
Megan Melendez, Northern Illinois
Junior, Stafford, VA (North Stafford)
In her second meet as a three-event gymnast, NIU’s Megan Melendez had her best overall day as she scored 9.775 on both balance beam and uneven parallel bars, and tied her career best vault with a 9.650. Melendez earned Northern Illinois’ top score of the night on both bars and beam as she contributed to NIU’s season high team total of 194.025 and helped keep the Huskies in the meet with CMU entering the final event. She tied for second place on beam and tied for fourth on balance beam.
 
Jaelyn Olsen, Northern Illinois
Freshman, Bethany, OK (Putnam City West)
NIU freshman Jaelyn Olsen scored a 9.825 on vault to record her career high score on the event. It was also the top vault score by any Huskie gymnast this year. Olsen tied for first place on vault in the meet versus Central Michigan, contributing to the Huskies’ season-best 194.025 team total.
