MAC Announces Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week

Men's Swimmer of the Week
Matthew Wilson, Missouri State
Sophomore, West Monroe, La. (West Monroe High) 
Missouri State’s Matthew Wilson had a breakout performance on the final day of the UIW Christmas Invitation (Dec. 17). Highlighting the sophomore’s weekend in San Antonio was his runner-up finish in the 200 butterfly. 
The West Monroe, La. native made it back to finals in all four of his individual events, including two A-Final appearances.
On the second day of competition, Wilson doubled up on individual events and swam the 100 fly and 100 back. He finished seventh in the 100 fly and 11th overall in the 100 back.
Wilson saved his best performance for the final day, shaving 1.73 seconds off his season best in the 200 fly. He was the runner-up in the event and came within .29 seconds of TCU’s Luiz Azarias for the win. His time of 1:49.70 came was just a few tenths shy of his lifetime best and vaulted him into the No. 2 spot in the MAC rankings.

Freshman, Berkeley, Calif. (Claudia Taylor Johnson) 
Evansville swimmer Cameron Wickes posted a pair of top finishes as the Purple Aces faced Eastern Illinois on Saturday.  Along with his teammates, he led UE to a win in the 1500-yard freestyle relay with a time of 15:04.70.  He also helped his team take top honors in the 500-yard freestyle relay as his team finished in a time of 4:19.78.
