Ball State's Sean Baker Wins National Award

Sean Baker (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield H.S.), a redshirt freshman defensive back on the Ball State football team, has been named the Walter Camp Foundation National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Ball State’s 41-24 win at Akron.

Baker tied a Ball State school record with three interceptions plus recovered one fumble and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown. In addition, he led Ball State with nine tackles and added one pass breakup. This marks the fifth year the Walter Camp Foundation distributes the weekly honors, and the recipients are selected by a panel of national media memers.

Baker, who has started the last two games for the Cardinals, leads the team with 24 tackles this season. In addition, he has added one tackle for loss and two pass breakups.

The Cardinals are 3-0 this season and 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference. This marks the best start of a season for a Ball State football team since the Cardinals were 5-0 to start the 1988 campaign. Ball State will play at Indiana Saturday in a 7 p.m. contest televised on the Big Ten Network, and return to Scheumann Stadium to host Kent State Sept. 27, in a noon Homecoming Game to be televised by ESPN Regional.
