MAC Men’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week
Mark Singnil, Toledo – Junior, Samutsakorn, Thailand
Toledo junior Mark Singnil posted a 3-1 record over the past week in No. 1 singles with his only loss coming against nationally ranked Louisville. Singnil improved to 6-3 overall on the season and 4-1 in the No. 1 slot. His wins against Tennessee Tech and Youngstown State helped the Rockets earn their first two victories of the season, as Singnil has built up a three-match win singles win streak.
Sergio Arevalillo, Buffalo – Sophomore, Madrid, Spain
Buffalo sophomore Sergio Arevalillo provided the match-clinching point in the team's 4-3 comeback win over Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon. The sophomore beat CSU's Joe VanMeter 6-3, 4-6, 6-5 at fourth singles, putting the finishing touches on the team's rally from a 3-2 deficit to the Vikings. After winning the first set, he would drop the second set to start a dramatic final stretch. Arevalillo, who trailed 5-4 in the third set, would force a 5-5 tie to go into a tiebreaker, and he would cruise easily to the 6-5 win after dominating the extra play.
Simon Formont, Northern Illinois – Sophomore, Orleans, France
Northern Illinois sophomore Simon Formont improved his overall record on the 2014 season to 6-0 in singles play with three wins last weekend. Playing in the No. 6 matches, Formont needed more than one set to down his opponent just once, in a match against SIU's Filip Aleksic. Formont contributed three points to a team that outscored opponents 20-1 in their three matches on Friday and Saturday.
