MAC Names Men's Tennis Player and Doubles Team of the Week

MEN’S SINGLES TENNIS PLAYER AND DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK
 
MAC Men’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week
Nadin Indre, Western Michigan – Senior, Satu Mare, Romania
Western Michigan senior Nadin Indre was one of four Broncos to go 2-0 in singles last week, helping the Broncos to a 3-0 record with wins over Illinois-Chicago and Chicago State at home and clinching a 4-3 victory against Cleveland State on the road.  Indre started the week with a win over the Flames' Alexander Raa in No. 1 singles, winning a first-set tiebreaker and ultimately taking the match 6-5 (3), 6-2.  Indre recorded the deciding victory in the Broncos' 4-3 win over the Vikings on Friday, coming back from a second set loss to Jorg Van der Vloet in the No. 1 singles match to shut him out in the third and win 6-5, 5-6, 6-0.  On the season, Indre is 4-0 in No. 1 singles matches.

Patrick Elliott, Ball State – Junior, Jeffersonville, Ind. (Jeffersonville High School)
Ball State junior Patrick Elliott dropped his first set at No. 2 singles 5-6 (7-4) before taking sets two and three 6-2, 10-7 over Cleveland State's Jorg Van Der Vioet on Sunday.  Elliott also helped the Cardinals win at No. doubles and earn the first point of the match over Cleveland State.
 
Frederic Cadieux, Northern Illinois – Junior, Verdun, Quebec
Northern Illinois junior Frederic Cadieux improved his singles record in No. 3 matches to 3-0 in 2014. He was outstanding in his first match against Chicago State's Julian Chavez, as he did not allow his opponent to take a single game in either set, winning 6-0, 6-0. The evening match against IPFW's Andres Cobos was tougher, but Cadieux was still able to take the victory in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. 
 
 
MAC Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Nadin Indre, Western Michigan – Senior, Sate Mare, Romania
Stephen  Payne, Western Michigan – Sophomore, Livonia, Mich. (Livonia  Franklin High School)
Western Michigan senior Nadin Indre and sophomore Stephen Payne went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles for the Broncos last week, helping them to a perfect 3-0 record with wins over Illinois-Chicago and Chicago State at home and a 4-3 victory against Cleveland State on the road.  Indre and Payne clinched the doubles point against UIC on Monday, downing Alexander Raa and Carl Hedstrom 6-1 to give the Broncos the first point of the match.  They wrapped up a perfect doubles session against Chicago State in the second half of that doubleheader, beating Sergiu Muresan and Mario Noboa 6-3. The duo wrapped up their perfect week with a 6-5 win in the No. 1 doubles match against Cleveland State, beating Ali Shabib and Joe Vanmeter 6-5 in the No. 1 doubles match.

Ray Leonard, Ball State – Junior, Bloomington, Ind. (Bloomington North High School)
Ball State juniors Patrick Elliott and Ray Leonard paired up at No. 1 doubles against Cleveland State's doubles tandem of Ali Shabib and Joe VanMeter to win a 6-4 victory over the Vikings.  The win helped Ball State take the doubles point from Cleveland State to give the Cardinals a 1-0 edge heading into singles action.
 
Dor Amir, Northern Illinois – Junior, Tel Aviv, Israel
Axel Lagerlof, Northern Illinois – Senior, Malmo, Sweden
Northern Illinois Dor Amir and Axel Lagerlof remained unbeaten on the young season after NIU's doubleheader on Friday, improving their record to 3-0 in No. 1 matches so far. The two started the day strong for the Huskies by taking down Chicago State's Mario Noboa and Segui Mureson 6-4. In the evening doubles match against IPFW's Daniel Kang and Andres Cobos, the NIU pairing was dominant in a 6-1 victory.
