ST. PETERSBURG --The Ohio University football team (7-6) ended the 2013 season with a 37-20 loss to East Carolina University (10-3) on Monday (Dec. 23) in a 2013 Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl in which numerous bowl game records fell at Tropicana Field.

The Bobcats rallied from a 14-0 fourth quarter deficit and took a 20-17 lead on a 28-yard field goal by redshirt sophomore kicker Josiah Yazdani (Albany, Ohio) with 13:34 remaining in the fourth quarter. East Carolina tallied 20 unanswered points to close the contest, though, and prevented Ohio from capturing its third straight bowl triumph in its fifth straight postseason appearance under ninth-year head coach Frank Solich.

Redshirt senior wide receiver Donte Foster (Guthrie, Okla.) set a Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl record with 160 receiving yards and a touchdown on six receptions to earn Ohio’s Most Valuable Player honors. He finished his Ohio career with 2,180 receiving yards, which ranks third in school history.

East Carolina senior running back Vintavious Cooper was named MVP after rushing for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.

Ohio redshirt senior quarterback Tyler Tettleton (Norman, Okla.) went 21-of-40 for 228 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. He closed out his career as Ohio’s most prolific passer with 9,125 yards and 67 touchdown passes.

Defensively, redshirt junior safety Nathan Carpenter (Lancaster, Ohio) and redshirt senior linebacker Keith Moore (Grove City, Ohio) led the Bobcats with seven tackles apiece.

East Carolina jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead courtesy of a five-yard scoring strike from junior quarterback Shane Carden to redshirt junior wide receiver Cam Worthy and a two-yard touchdown run by junior running back Breon Allen.

The Bobcats answered back on the ensuing drive to open the second quarter, though cutting East Carolina’s advantage to 14-7. Sophomore running back Daz’mond Patterson (Plant City, Fla.) picked up 26 yards on a catch-and-run from Tettleton. Fifteen more yards were tacked on to the end of the play when East Carolina junior linebacker Jeremy Grove was flagged for roughing the passer. Tettleton connected with Patterson on the next play for a 17-yard touchdown.

After forcing East Carolina to punt on the following drive, Ohio evened the score courtesy of the longest play from scrimmage in Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl history -- an 80-yard scoring strike from redshirt sophomore quarterback Derrius Vick (Lincoln, Neb.) to Foster. Yazdani hit the extra point to knot the contest at 14-all.

The Pirates regained the lead with just over a minute remaining in the first half courtesy of a 41-yard field goal by junior kicker Warren Harvey, giving East Carolina a 17-14 edge heading into halftime.

After exchanging punts with East Carolina to open the second half, Ohio converted on third down three times and on fourth down once on its second drive, helping set up a 29-yard field goal by Yazdani that capped a 17-play, 60-yard march and knotted the contest at 17-all.

The Bobcats forced the Pirates to punt on its first two possessions of the second half, but East Carolina drove 56 yards to the Ohio 12 yard line on its third drive. The Pirates could not capitalize, though, as Harvey missed from 29 yards out.

Yazdani’s field goal with just over 13 minutes left put the Bobcats in front for the first time, but East Carolina rallied by scoring 20 unanswered to secure the win.
