Updated 11/27/2013

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday that Ohio University Head Coach, Ryan Theis, has been named the 2013 MAC Volleyball Coach of the Year as voted on by his peers.
For Ryan Theis, this is his second time winning the award.  He had previously received the award following the 1998 season.  The honor also marks the sixth time an Ohio University head coach has received the award.  Theis also joins Miami’s Carolyn Condit and Northern Illinois’ Ray Gooden as the only active coaches in the MAC to receive the Coach of the Year honor on multiple occasions.
Theis guided the Bobcats to a 14-4 MAC record and 27-4 overall record as OU swept MAC East, MAC Regular Season and MAC Championship titles.   During the course of the season, the Bobcats moved into the AVCA Top-25 for four weeks, reaching as high as #18 in the October 7th (Week 8) poll.
The award wraps-up a successful week for the Bobcats.  Last Thursday, Abby Gilleland was named the 2013 MAC Volleyball Player and Setter of the Year.  Sunday the number-one seeded Bobcats completed a perfect sweep on the way to the MAC Championship, with 3-0 wins over #8 Kent State, #5 Northern Illinois and #7 Eastern Michigan.
Theis and the Bobcats await their NCAA Championship fate now, as the NCAA Selection Show does not take place until Sunday, December 1st at 9:30 PM and can be seen on ESPNU
