MAC Names Week Nine Football Players of the Week

MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES WEEK NINE
FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE, DEFENSIVE AND SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
 
East Division
Offensive Player of the Week:  Buffalo RB Branden Oliver
Senior running back Branden Oliver (Miami, Fla.) rushed for 185 yards on 31 carries and a career-best four touchdowns in Buffalo's 41-21 win over Kent State on Saturday. The senior running back became just the fourth running back in school history with four or more rushing touchdowns in a game and the first in UB's Division I-A era (since 1999). With the Bulls trailing 7-6 in the second quarter, Oliver scored UB's next four touchdowns to give Buffalo a 34-7 advantage. Oliver added two receptions for 14 yards to total 199 yards of total offense.
 
Defensive Player of the Week:  Buffalo LB Khalil Mack
Senior linebacker Khalil Mack (Fort Pierce, Fla.) tied for the game high with 10 tackles and added a sack and an interception in a 41-21 win at Kent State.  Mack made the biggest defensive play late in the half that changed the complexion of the game. With the Bulls leading 13-7, and Kent State in the Buffalo redzone, Mack made a one-handed interception at the 10-yard line and returned it to the Kent State 45 yard line. Four plays later, Buffalo scored a touchdown with just nine seconds left in the half to take a 20-7 lead into the locker room at halftime. Mack's sack in the third quarter was the 25 of his career, giving him the all-time school record.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week:  Ohio K Josiah Yazdani
Sophomore kicker Josiah Yazdani (Albany, Ohio) drilled a pair of field this past Saturday in a 41-16 win over Miami as he connected from 24 and 33 yards out. In 2013, Yazdani is a perfect 6-for-6. He also had a 52.9 kickoff average and was a perfect 4-for-4 on extra points.
 
 
West Division
Offensive Player of the Week:  Ball State WR Jordan Williams
Sophomore wide receiver Jordan Williams (Indianapolis, Ind.) caught a career high 12 passes for 124 yards and matched his career high with two touchdown catches in Ball State’s 42-24 win at Akron Saturday. The 124 yards receiving marked his third 100-yard receiving game this season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week:  Toledo LB Junior Sylvestre
Junior linebacker Junior Sylvestre (Hollywood, Fla.) posted a game-high 12 tackles and a career-best 3.0 sacks in a 28-25 win at Bowling Green. His final sack of the day was a seven-yard loss that forced Bowling Green into a third-and-13 on their final drive.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week:  Western Michigan K Andrew Haldeman
Sophomore kicker Andrew Haldeman (Ferndale, Mich.) continued his consistent play in 2013 with his seventh made field goal in eight attempts, making good on a 36-yard try in Western Michigan's 31-30 win at UMass. Haldeman remained perfect on his PATs, making good on all four attempts against the Minutemen as well.  He has made good on all 15 attempts this year and has a current streak of 42 straight PATs made.  Since taking over kick off duties, Haldeman has proven to be an asset and continued that against UMass with six kickoffs for an average of 46.5 yards per kick.  He leads the team with 36 points this season and now has 108 for his career.
