PORT CLINTON, Ohio - Sophomore Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) shot a 77 (+5) to place eighth and push the Ohio University women's golf team to an eighth-place finish in the Rocket Classic at the Catawba Island Club.
On Tuesday, Ohio tallied a final-round team-score of 321 (+33) to arrive at a three-round combined-score of 952 (+88).
Codian fired a 230 (+14), marking her fifth top-10 finish at Ohio.
Both Senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) and freshman Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) fired an 83 (+11) in their final rounds. Helmsdoerfer's 236 (+20) score was good for 23rd in the field while Hrynewich's 244 (+28) tied for 43rd.
Senior Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) improved on her second round score by three strokes to shoot an 82 (+10) in the final round to tie her for 56th with a 249 (+33) two-day total. Sophomore Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) carded 251 (+35) to place 62nd. McKinzie shot a 79 (+7) on Tuesday, marking her best round of the tournament.
In the individual pool, junior Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) shot an 80 (+8) to give her a 239 (+23) three-round total and a tie for 30th place.
Toledo took top-honors in the tournament, shooting a combine-score of 891 (+27). Toledo's Manisa Isavas led the individual field with a 220 (+4). Altogether, the Rockets had five players place in the top-20.
The conclusion of the Rocket Classic marks the end of Ohio's fall season.


PORT CLINTON, OH – Sophomore Manisa Isavas captured the first tournament title of her collegiate career on Tuesday to propel Toledo to a 35-stroke victory over Bowling Green at the Rocket Classic. The tournament was held at the par-72, 5,929-yard Catawba Island Club. 
UT carded its best round of the tourney today with a six-over par 294 to finish with a 54-hole total of 891, one stroke shy of the school record established earlier this fall at Illinois State’s Redbird Invitational. The victory was the Rockets' third tournament title of their fall campaign.
“Our performance was tremendous, and I want to thank the Catawba Island Club for helping us put on a great tournament,” Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. “Manisa, Sathika and Jennifer all played extremely well, and it’s great to see each of them rewarded for all the hard work they’ve put in.”
Isavas notched a career-best four-over par 220 (70-79-71) to finish one stroke ahead of classmate Sathika Ruenreong, who placed second at five-over par 221 (76-72-73). Junior Jennifer Elsholz finished in third place at eight-over par 224 (74-74-76). Also helping the Rockets to their first-place showing were junior Stephanie St-Jean (T-14th/76-76-81=223), senior Kate Hoops (T-19th/81-80-74=235). Sophomore Emily Dixon competed as an individual and tied for 30th place at 23-over par 239 (82-74-830.
Toledo will conclude its fall season this weekend with a trip to Greenwood, IN for Indiana’s Hickory Stick Intercollegiate. The Rockets will play 36 holes on Saturday, Oct. 19 followed by 18 holes on Sunday, Oct. 20.


PORT CLINTON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's golf team closed out its fall schedule in a tie for sixth place following the final round the Rocket Classic on Tuesday at the par-72, 5,929-yard Catawba Island Club.
The Zips finished the tournament with a three-round score of 949 (+85) to finish tied with Detroit. Mid-American Conference foe and tournament host Toledo won the event with a two-day tally of 891 (+27)
Frida Fougberg and Lina Bengtsson led the way for the Zips, with both posting top-20 finishes. Fougberg climbed 13 spots on day two thanks to a round of 3-over 75 to finish in a tie for 14th place (233, +17). Bengtsson closed out a solid fall campaign in 18th place (234, +18) after a final-round 77 (+5).
Sara Chaves and Laura Murray ended the fall slate in a tie for 35th place with identical 54-hole scores of 241 (+25). Chaves carded a 12-over 84 while Murray post an 8-over 80.
Sierra Everson rounded out the scoring-five in 77th place (266, +50).
Mallory Etcheberry and Lesli Stolly – both playing as individuals – ended the tournament in a tie for 67th (254, +38) and tied for 72nd (258, +42), respectively. The event was the first in Stolly's collegiate career.
The Zips return to action at the first Mid-American Conference Match Play event, which is set for February 3-4, 2014, in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.

Bowling Green

Port Clinton, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team finished second at the 2013 Rocket Classic after completing the final round on Tuesday (Oct. 15).  The Falcons finished the 54-hole tournament, which was held at Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio, with a team score of 926 (319-303-304).  Toledo University, who hosted the event, won the tournament with a two-day total of 891.
The Orange and Brown sent the same seven competitors out on the links for the final round that competed in the first two rounds. Juniors Shelby Wilson and Patricia Holt paced Bowling Green with identical 54-hole cards of 232.
Wilson, who fired a 79 and 75 (+10) over the first day, came back with a 78 (+6) over her final day, while Holt finished her final round with a 77 (+5). Each finished tied for 10th overall in a field that featured 79 total players.
Sophomores Lily Bartell and Hannah Lewis also competed for the Falcons over the week. Bartell fired a 233 (79-75-79), placing her inside the top 15, tied for 14th overall. Meanwhile, Lewis saved her best round for the final day, firing a 76 (+4) and a two-day total of 235. The total placed Lewis 19th overall, giving head coach Stephanie Young four players inside the top 20.
Senior Bailey Arnold rounded out the five Falcons' that could count their scores for the tournament. Arnold had the best round of the day for Bowling Green, shooting an impressive 1-over 73.
Also competing in the field was senior Kelsey Benson and freshman Mikayla Baer. Playing as individuals, Benson totaled a 244 (82-78-84) over the two days, placing her tied for 43rd place. Baer stayed consistent throughout her final two rounds, firing identical 80's for a 54-hole total of 247.
The tournament ended the Falcons fall season. Bowlinh Green will begin their spring season on Feb. 3-4 at the Women's Mid-American Match-Play Challenge.

Western Michigan

CATAWBA, Ohio - Western Michigan golf saved its best for last this fall as the Broncos finished in a season-best fourth place at the Rocket Classic at the Catawba Island Club.
Laura Moutrey, one day after carding a career-low 74, went one shot lower and fired a 1-over par 73.  Moutrey registered the best tournament finish of her collegiate career, placing fourth, while also besting her career low 54-hole score (226).
Emma Salata also hit a career milestone with her first ever top 10 finish.  Salata carded a final round 79 to finish tied for 10th.
Kelsey Carney and Anna Wilcoxson each finished tied for 27th with three-round scores of 238, the lowest scores among all golfers competing as individuals.
WMU recorded a final round team score of 313 to finish at 939 in fourth place behind Indiana State (937), Bowling Green (927) and team champion Toledo (891).  The Rockets' Manisa Isavas claimed medalist honors with a final round 1-under par 71 and 54-hole total of 220.  Sathika Ruenreong and Jennifer Elsholz, both of Toledo, rounded out the top three.
