MAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Mateo Munarriz, Hartwick, Goalkeeper
Jr., Manizales, Colombia / Colegio Granadino
Munarriz was instrumental in Hartwick’s 2-0 shutout victory over #9 Akron on Saturday night as he kept the Zips off the scoreboard with acrobatic saves for the entire 90 minutes of action. He stopped four shots in the opening half, three of which were difficult diving saves to rob the Zips of the go-ahead goal. He made nine more stops in the second half, none more important than a penalty kick save with 5:50 remaining in the game and the Hawks leading by a 1-0 margin. He guessed correctly on Reindaldo Brenes’ effort from the spot, diving to his left and then gobbling up the rebound in traffic to help preserve the win and snap the Zips’ NCAA record 49-game conference unbeaten streak. Munarriz’s 13 saves in the match was a career-best.
