MAC Names Week Six Football Players of the Week

Updated 10/7/2013

East Division
Offensive Player of the Week:  Buffalo RB Branden Oliver
Senior running back Branden Oliver (Miami, Fla.) rushed for a season-high 150 yards and two touchdowns in Buffalo's 42-14 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday.  Oliver played in just three quarters due to Buffalo's large lead, but when he was in the game he averaged 6.0 yards per rush.  Oliver set the tone early, as he ripped off a 60-yd touchdown run on Buffalo's opening drive and the Bulls never looked back.
Defensive Player of the Week:  Ohio S Thad Ingol
Junior safety Thad Ingol (Barberton, Ohio) helped anchor a defensive unit that limited Akron to just 157 yards of total offense in a 43-3 road victory. Ingol also tallied his first interception of the year, which he returned 34 yards that helped set up a six play scoring drive and gave Ohio a 20-point lead. Ingol struck again as he recovered his first career fumble and returned it 18-yards for a touchdown.
Special Teams Player of the Week:  Kent State KR Dri Archer
Senior kick returner Dri Archer (Laurel, Fla.) on his first and only kickoff return of the season raced 100 yards for a touchdown in a 38-24 loss to Northern Illinois.  The 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown tied a Kent State record set in 1979 by Norman Warren.  Archer now has four kickoff returns for touchdowns, all of which are 98 yards or more.
West Division
Offensive Player of the Week:  Northern Illinois RB Cameron Stingily
Junior running back Cameron Stingily (Romeoville, Ill.) ran for 266 yards on 37 carries (7.2 avg.) and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns to lead the Huskies in a 38-24 win at Kent State. Stingily’s yardage total ranks second among all FBS this season, and was the most by a Huskie running back since Garrett Wolfe set the school record with 353 yards at Ball State in 2006.  He recorded the 12th highest rushing yardage day in school history on just his second career 100-yard rushing day.
Defensive Player of the Week:  Ball State DE Jonathan Newsome
Senior defensive end Jonathan Newsome (Cleveland, Ohio) tallied four tackles, including two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss in Ball State’s 48-27 win at Virginia.  Newsome was part of a Ball State defense that forced Virginia into four turnovers – three fumbles and one interception – in the road victory.
Special Teams Player of the Week:  Toledo K Jeremiah Detmer
Junior kicker Jeremiah Detmer (Hilliard, Ohio) connected on 2-of-2 field goals from 39 and 29 yards in a 47-20 win over Western Michigan.  Detmer also handled kickoff duties and booted seven of his nine kickoffs for touchbacks.
