Men's Golfer of the Week

Corey Conners, Kent State, Senior

Tournament Name: Gopher Invitational

Finish in Event: First

Final Score: 206 (-7)

Conners is the first player in the nine-year history of the Gopher Invitational to win back-to-back individual championships. This year’s tournament was held at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.  Last year’s event was held at nearby Spring Hill Golf Club. Conners needed a birdie at the par-5 18th hole to win the individual title in the final round. He helped Kent State to a third-place finish overall.  Conners was a semifinalist last month at the United States Amateur championship at the Country Club in Brookline, Mass.

 

Women's Golfer of the Week

Jenna Hague, Ball State, Junior

Tournament Name: Redbird Invitational

Finish in Event: First

Final Score: 215 (-1)

Jenna Hague tied the Ball State 54-hole scoring record at 1-under par 215 on her way to medalist honors at Illinois State’s Redbird Invitational. The Ball State junior birdied two of her final three holes in Monday’s final round to claim a one-stroke victory at the par-72, 6,051-yard Weibring Golf Club. She also led Ball State to a second-place finish as a team in the Cardinals’ season-opening event. The individual victory was the fifth of Hague’s career as she extended her own school record for wins.

Andrew Mlynarski, Ohio, Sophomore

Tournament Name: Marshall Invitational

Finish in Event: 17th

Final Score 215

Mlynarski finished in the top-20 for the first time in his career. He carded 42 pars, the most of any player in the field.

 

J.B. Williams, Akron, Freshman

Tournament Name: Golfweek Program Challenge

Finish in Event: second

Final Score: 209 (-7)

Playing in his first collegiate event, freshman J.B. Williams helped guide the Zips to the team title at the Golfweek Program Challenge. Williams opened the event with a round of 4-under 68, one of the lowest rounds by a UA freshman in program history. He followed that up with a round of 3-under 69 on Monday to enter the final day in contention for medalist honors. He closed out the event with an even-par 72 to help the Zips overcome a seven-shot deficit on the final day to post a five-stroke victory. For the week, he finished with 13 birdies, six bogeys and was never worse than 1-over during his three rounds.

 

Lina Bengtsson, Akron, Freshman

Tournament Name: Golfweek Program Challenge

Finish in Event: T-29th

Final Score: 228 (+15)

Playing in her first collegiate tournament, freshman Lina Bengtsson helped the Zips to an eighth-place finish at the Golfweek Program Challenge. She opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 6-over 77 before posting one of the top rounds for the Zips, a 3-over 74 to close out the event. 
 

Lily Bartell, Bowling Green, Sophomore

Tournament Name: Redbird Invitational

Finish in Event: second

Final Score: E, 216

Bartell played one of the best tournaments in BGSU history. Bartell carded an even-par 216 (69-71-76), which is the second-best 54-hole tournament score to only Susy Grunden's 210 in the 2010-11 North Texas Fall Classic. Bartell also shot a career-low 3-under 69 in the first round at Weibring Golf Club. 

 

Kate Hoops, Toledo, Senior

Tournament Name: Redbird Invitational

Finish in Event: T-3rd

Final Score 219

Senior Kate Hoops helped Toledo set a school record for lowest 54-hole stroke total en route to successfully defending its Redbird Invitational title on Monday. UT finished at 26-over par 890 (297-295-298) which was two strokes better than numbers posted by the Rockets in 2005 and 2007.  

 

Angela Codian, Ohio, Sophomore

Tournament Name: Redbird Invitational

Finish in Event: T-9th

Final Score: 223 (+7)

Angela’s 223 score this weekend tied her 54-hole career best and helped the Bobcats tally their best three-round score (918) since 1999. Angela finished ninth out of 86 players in the field marking her fourth top-10 finish at Ohio.
