ATHENS, Ga. – Kent State sophomore Jennifer Ha opened the 2013 NCAA Women's Golf Championships with a 7-over, 79 on Tuesday at University of Georgia Golf Course. Ha is in 108th place at the conclusion of the first round of play.
"Overall, Jennifer was very good in her ball striking today," said assistant coach Maddi Swaney. "She struggled a bit adjusting to the speed of the greens, which led to some three-putts."
Beginning on the 10th tee, Ha struggled early. After bogeying five of her first six holes, she then put together back-to-back birdies on No. 16 and No. 17 to finish the back nine at 3-over.
"She hit a great tee shot on 16 and then out it in from about 17 feet," said Swaney.
Ha then went birdie-less with four bogies over her final nine holes.
San Jose State and Southern California shot a 4-under, 284 to share the top spot on the leaderboard. The Spartans' Regan De Guzman is the individual leader after shooting an opening round 4-under, 68.
Ha will begin Wednesday's second round from the first tee at 12:48 p.m.
