Men's Tennis All-MAC Teams & Postseason Awards Announced

MAC ANNOUNCES MEN’S TENNIS ALL-MAC TEAMS AND POSTSEASON AWARDS

Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference (MAC) announced the 2013 Men’s Tennis All-MAC first and second teams and specialty awards, including the Player, Newcomer and Coach of the Year, as well as the Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award.

MAC Tournament Champion Western Michigan witnessed Nadre Indre earn first team All-MAC honors and Ross VanderPloeg garner second team All-MAC honoree.  Indre and VanderPloeg led the Broncos as the No. 2 seed in the tournament and defeated No. 3 Buffalo, 4-2, and No. 4 Northern Illinois, 4-3.  Western Michigan won the programs seventh MAC Men’s Tennis Championship in the last eight years.
 
Buffalo senior Vusa Hove was honored as the MAC Player of the Year with an 18-11 overall record, including 4-1 in MAC play, and was also named first team All-MAC.  For the Bulls, Pablo Alvarez was honored with the Newcomer of the Year award posting a 4-1 MAC record, 10-8 overall.  Also, Damien David was named second team All-MAC.
 
Ball State’s Alex Brym was recognized with the Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award, an annual award presented to a senior who has displayed outstanding sportsmanship throughout his career.  The Cardinals also witnessed head coach Bill Richards earn Coach of the Year and placed Ray Leonard as a first team All-MAC selection, while seniors Dalton Albertin and Cliff Morrison earned second team All-MAC selections.
 
Northern Illinois, who entered the MAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed and upset top seeded Ball State, witnessed Axel Lagerlof and Dor Amir named as first team All-MAC selections, while Frederic Cadeiux was named a second team All-MAC honoree.
 
Toledo’s Tomas Stillman was also named first team All-MAC, while Francisco Stuardo was named second team All-MAC.
 
Five of the six first team All-MAC selections (Vusa Hove, Buffalo; Nadin Indre, Western Michigan; Ray Leonard, Ball State; Dor Amir, Northern Illinois; Tomas Stillman, Toledo) were also named first team All-MAC in 2012, while Alex Lagerlof of Northern Illinois was a second-team All-MAC last season.
