Men's Tennis Defeats Buffalo to Claim MAC Title
BUFFALO, NY - The Ball State men's tennis team (16-7, 5-0 MAC) earned the Mid-American Conference regular season title after its 4-3 defeat at Buffalo (9-8, 3-1 MAC) Saturday afternoon.
“We started strong with some good doubles and maintained the momentum through singles," said head men’s tennis coach Bill Richards. “It was another great team effort. These guys have done a great job all year and I am happy for them that they are MAC Champions.”
The Cardinals have not won a MAC regular season crown since the 2006 season. Ball State has now won a combined 37 MAC regular season and MAC tournament championships in the 41 year tenure of Richards.
Ball State won on courts one and two, while on court three Imanol Arconada and Alexandre Brym were ahead 5-3 over Y. Shkodnik and Vusa Hove. That match was then retired due to the fact that the Cardinals had already claimed the doubles point.

Buffalo's Damien David made it a 2-1 match with his win over Cliff Morrison at the No. 2 spot. Broncos Clinch MAC Tourney Bid, Defeat Rockets
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team punched their ticket to the 2013 Mid-American Conference tournament with a convincing win on Senior Day, defeating the Toledo Rockets 5-2 at West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo. With the win, the Broncos improve to 17-9 on the season, and conclude the MAC schedule with a 3-2 mark.
The Broncos snapped a modest two-match losing streak in large part due to the success in doubles play; after having lost the doubles point in two straight matches, the Broncos won it against the Rockets, taking the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles matches to steal the session. Three players went 2-0 on the day, including Nadin Indre, who finished the conference season at a perfect combined 8-0 between No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.
Indre and Ruben Greiner were the first to strike for the Broncos in the doubles session, defeating Tomas Stillman and Nicholas Wong 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. The Rockets took a tight match at No. 2 doubles, but the Broncos came out ahead thanks to an exciting finish on the third court. Andrew Cahn and Ross VanderPloeg out-dueled Ryan Jorgensen and Bryant Dudzik in a tiebreaker, winning 9-8 (7) to win the match and clinch the important doubles point.
The extra point now in their grasp, the Broncos clinched the victory before Toledo could post any points in singles play, picking up three quick victories to seal the win. Cahn was the first off the court, cruising past Jorgensen 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles, and Aaron Wong came back from a deficit early in the second set against Grant Adams to win 6-1, 7-6 (5) at No. 3 singles. Indre won the clincher for the Broncos, notching a late break against Stillman in the second set of their No. 1 singles match to win 6-4, 7-6 (5).
Greiner wrapped the scoring effort for the Broncos with a comeback of his own. After trailing Wong after one set played, Greiner won the second set to tie his match at one apiece; he bounced back from a 3-0 deficit in the third set to win six straight games, winning the set and the No. 4 match 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
