Kristel Sanders, Ball State – Junior, Veldhoven, The Netherlands
Ball State junior Kristel Sanders started conference action off 2-0 in singles after defeating Toledo's Lexy Pitt 7-5, 6-1 on Friday helping the Cardinals post the 6-1 victory over the Rockets. Sanders then remained undefeated in MAC play improving to 5-0 after her 7-6 (7-2), 0-6, 7-6 (7-2) defeat against Eastern Michigan's Daphne Friedrichs. Sanders is also 5-0 in doubles action as her and Bethany Moore earned 8-4 win against Toledo and then posted an 8-3 defeat over Eastern Michigan at No. 2 doubles. Sanders is the only Cardinal that is undefeated in both singles and doubles in MAC play.
Katie Brozovich, Bowling Green – Freshman, Clarkston, Mich. (Clarkston High School)
Bowling Green freshman Katie Brozovich won two more matches at the fourth singles flight last week, continuing a two-month-long run of success. Brozovich downed Akron’s Ksenia Berestetska to give the Falcons a win over the two-time defending MAC Tournament champion Zips on Friday. Brozovich and Ksenia battled into a third set at the fourth flight, and the Falcon freshman posted a 6-0 win in the third set to give the Falcons a 4-3 win. The next day, Brozovich again won at the fourth singles flight in Bowling Green’s 5-2 loss at Buffalo. She bested Buffalo’s Laura Fernandez with a 6-2 win in the third set. Brozovich is a perfect 5-0 in MAC singles matches in this, her first collegiate season. She has won 16 consecutive singles matches since her last loss back on Jan. 18. Overall, she has won 23 matches in a row (including both singles and doubles) since that setback. She has a singles record of 25-8, including a perfect 6-0 mark at the fourth flight, and is 15-7 in doubles play this season. She ranks third on the team in overall wins, with a 40-15 record.
