MOUNT PLEASANT — Central Michigan sophomore Crystal Bradford garnered yet another postseason honor earlier this week, being named to the Mid-Major All-American First Team.
Bradford led the Chippewas in scoring (16.1), rebounding (9.9), blocks (1.8) and steals (2.3) in 2013 and was named a Mid-American Conference first-team selection as well as the MAC Tournament MVP. The sophomore from Detroit, Mich., saved her best performance of the season for the Chippewas’ last game however, torching No. 6 seed Oklahoma for a program tournament record 36 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals.
A WBCA All-Region 4 All-American candidate, Bradford was the first player in 20 years to earn first-team All-MAC honors and tied a conference record for consecutive MAC West Player of the Week honors with three. She had 15 double doubles on the season and scored in double digits in all but four games.
She became the first player in program history to score 500 points and pull down 300 rebounds in a season and set a new program record with 217 made field goals. Her 531points were the third most ever by a CMU player as were her 327 rebounds.
Just as impressive was her ability to change a game defensively as her 61 blocks were the second most in single-season CMU history and her 77 steals were tied for the fifth most in a single season.
Bradford has two years of eligibility remaining for the Maroon and Gold and is just 14 points shy of becoming the 22nd player in program history to score 1,000 points.
