MAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Aaron Wong, Western Michigan – Senior, West Vancouver, B.C., Canada
Western Michigan senior Aaron Wong extended his season-long win streaks in a MAC doubleheader on Friday, going 4-0 overall (2-0 in singles play, 2-0 in doubles play) in road matches against Northern Illinois and Chicago State. Against the Huskies, Wong teamed with Jim Beckwith to beat Max Phillips and Jovan Zeljkovic in No. 3 doubles, clinching the doubles point with a 9-8 (6) win. Wong went on to beat Phillips again in the No. 3 singles match, winning 6-3, 6-4 as part of the Broncos' 5-2 win. Wong turned the trick again later that night against the Cougars, teaming with Beckwith to beat Rashley Yeremia and Luis Ulloa 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles match. He later beat Julian Chavez 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles match, helping the Broncos to a 7-0 win. Wong has now won six straight singles matches to improve to 21-14 overall in singles play, including a 14-8 record in dual matches. Wong has found in groove in doubles play since he started teaming with Jim Beckwith, possessing a 7-1 record teamed with the freshman.
Patrick Elliott, Ball State – Sophomore, Jeffersonville, Ind. (Jeffersonville High School)
Ball State sophomore Patrick Elliott helped the Cardinals open MAC play with a 5-2 victory at Toledo Saturday afternoon. Elliott took down Terence Weigand at the No. 5 position in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. At No. 1 doubles Elliott paired up with Ray Leonard to earn a 9-8 (7-2) defeat over Tomas Stillman and Nicholas Wong. As a sophomore Elliott is undefeated against the Rockets in MAC regular season action. Elliott leads the squad with a 13-3 dual mark and has extended his win streak to seven in row.
Frederic Cadieux, Northern Illinois – Sophomore, Verdun, Quebec, Canada
Northern Illinois sophomore Frederic Cadieux extended his singles unbeaten streak to eight matches Friday versus Western Michigan at the No. 2 position. Facing off against former Huskie Ross Vanderploeg, the sophomore won in straight sets for his 22nd win of the season, 6-4, 6-4. Overall, Cadieux carries a 21-3 record in 2012-13 with a 17-1 mark this spring.
