MAC Announces Golfers of the Week

Women's Golfer of the Week 
Jennifer Ha, Kent State
Junior Calgary, Alberta(Sir Winston Churchill)

Junior Jennifer Ha carded a tournament low 1-under 71 in the final round of play at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate for second place in the overall standings.  The Calgary, Alberta native completed the 54-hole tournament with a score of 226 (74-81-71) while leading the Golden Flashes to a tournament title. Kent State earned 14-over 931 (311-318-302).

 

Men's Golfer of the Week 
Casey Olsen, Eastern Michigan
Senior, Okemos, Mich./Okemos(Oakland University)
Due to unseasonable snow Sunday evening and Monday, this week's C&F Bank Intercollegiate was declared final after the first round was completed Tuesday afternoon.  Eastern Michigan University senior Casey Olsen and Notre Dame's Cory Sciupider finished tied for the top spot after a three-under par 67. The EMU men's golf team finished fourth overall, just three strokes behind No. 27 Tennessee at 285.
Olsen's victory was the first of his career and his second career top-10 showing. The individual title is the first by an Eagle since Graham Hill won the 2007 Mid-American Conference Championships. Additionally, his three-under 67 was just one shot off his career-low of 66 set in the second round of the Windon Memorial, Oct. 16, 2011.

Women
Frida Fougberg, Akron
Freshman Partille, Sweden (Lerums Gymnasium)
Frida Fougberg posted the best finish of her young Akron career on Monday, concluding the Low Country Intercollegiate in a tie for fourth place. After heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms scratched day one of the event, competitors faced 30-plus mph winds on Monday in the intercollegiate’s lone round. Fougberg battled the tough conditions to post a score of 9-over 81, one of just seven players to post a round of 81 or better during the day. Her previous-best finish was a tie for eighth place at the 2012 MAC Preview this past October.
 
Men
Charlie Bull, Akron 
Junior, London, England (Bradfield College)
Charlie Bull posted his second-consecutive top-15 finish this past weekend, finishing in a tie for 15th place at the 44th Annual Furman Intercollegiate. Bull finished the weekend with a score of even-par 216 to defeat 109 of 126 players in a field that included two top-50 teams and seven top-100 players in the latest Golfstat rankings. Bull opened play on Friday with a round of 1-over 73 before posting an even-par 72 on Saturday. On Sunday, Bull posted his eight round of par or better this season, including his fourth in the last three events, firing a round of 1-under 71. Bull now has six top-15 finishes seven events this season.
 
Kyle Kmiecik, Kent State 
Junior,  Avon, Ohio/St. Ignatius (Ole Miss)
Kyle Kmeicik paced the Golden Flashes at the 12-team Seahawk Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina-Wilmington with rounds of 75-54 to finish fifth at 5-over 149.   Kent State finished in second place with 29-over 605. 
 
Chris Selfridge, Toledo
Sophomore, Castledawson, Northern Ireland
Sophomore Chris Selfridge tied for fifth place at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate to help Toledo finish in seventh place in the 31-team event. Selfridge’s play helped the Rockets finish with a 10-over par 290 in an event that was reduced to one round due to snow.
