Kent State, Western Michigan Begin Postseason Play Tonight

• Kent State will host Fairfield in a Postseason Tournament first-round game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, at the M.A.C. Center.The Golden Flashes are looking to build on their 14th 20-win season in 15 years. Tuesday will also mark Kent State’s 14th postseason appearance. Kent State’s two seniors, Chris Evans (16.6 ppg) & Randal Holt (14.6 ppg), combine to average 31.2 points per game, which accounts for 43.8 percent of the Golden Flashes’ scoring. The duo combined to score 67 of the Golden Flashes’ 129 points in two games at last week’s MAC Tournament. The Golden Flashes are 4-1 all-time vs. Fairfield with their other wins coming in 1984, 1993 and 1994. The Stags beat the Flashes in 1972 on a neutral site in Buffalo, N.Y.

• The Broncos are making their CBI debut against the Bison, and have now played in all four postseason tournaments under head coach Steve Hawkins (NCAA - 2004, NIT - 2005, CIT - 2011, CBI - 2013). This is the ninth 20-win season in program history, and the fifth under head coach Steve Hawkins. Brandon Pokley is averaging 12.0 points per game and shooting 57.1 percent from the field in his last three games, including 9-of-16 (.563) from three-point range. Shayne Whittington was named Second-Team All-MAC, the first time in his career he has received an All-MAC honor. Whittington is averaging a double-double over his last five games (16.8 points, 11.4 rebounds). Darius Paul was named to the MAC All-Freshman team, and is the first MAC Freshman of the Year at Western Michigan since David Kool won it in 2007. Paul averaged 15.0 points per game and shot 11-of-1
