Akron 83, Buffalo 79
CLEVELAND, OHIO--The third-seeded Akron Zips defeated the seventh-seeded Buffalo Bulls 83-79. The Zips will play the second-seeded Ball State Cardinals Friday at 2:30 p.m. (STO/Comcast Michigan/ESPN3)
The win moves Akron to 22-8 on the year, while the loss drops Buffalo to 12-20.
Akron and Buffalo exchanged back-and-forth blows throughout the entire game as there were 15 lead changes and three ties.
Buffalo held a 70-66 lead with 5:40 to go, but Taylor Ruper’s three and one tied the game up at 70. The Zips would then close the game out on a 17-9 run.
Hanna Luburgh and Sinna King carried the Zips in the first half as the two combined for 27 of the Zips 48 points. Luburgh finished with 22 points and eight rebounds and King finished with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Buffalo’s red-hot shooting kept them in the game as the Bulls hit 53 percent of their shots including 7-17 from beyond the arc. It was the transition game that hurt the Bulls as Akron had 27 fast break points to Buffalo’s five.
Kristen Sharkey had 26 points and seven rebounds in the losing effort.
