CARBONDALE, Ill. - The first of a three day competition is complete and Eastern Michigan sits in first place with 242 points, Missouri State follows with 226, Buffalo sits third with 215.5, Miami is fourth with 130.5, Southern Illinois trails in fifth with 122, Ball State has 58 for sixth and lastly Evansville with 54 points.
Buffalo won the first finals event of the night while breaking a school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:19.65.The Bulls also won the final race of the night in the 400-yard medley relay team of Matt Schwippert, Josh Meints, Zorsch and Hogan broke both the UB and MAC Championship marks with their 3:13.18 finish.
Eastern Michigan senior Jacob Hanson broke a championship record and took first place in the the 200-individual medley. The Eagles standout completed the distance in 1:45.21. Other Eagle standouts, Jeffrey Craig and Andrew Saunders finished first and second on the diving boards.
Missouri State standout Paul Le had an immpressive night breaking records, he became the MSU varsity record holder in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 47.38.
Friday’s action will continue at 11 a.m. with the prelims for the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back. The 3-meter diving preliminaries will take place at 2 p.m.
