Female Scholar Athlete of the Week: February 18 – February 24, 2013
Kent State University Jackie Leppelmeier (W. Track and Field)
Jackie Leppelmeier (Throws, Sophomore, 3.89, Exercise Science) scored 15 points in helping Kent State’s women’s track and field team win its second consecutive MAC Indoor Championship in record fashion. Leppelmeier won the shot put with a throw of 51’-09.75” to help the Golden Flashes go 1-2-3 in the event. Her throw ranks sixth all-tine in school history. Leppelmeier also scored in the weight throw with a toss of 65’-02.75” to place fourth. Kent State scored a conference record 175 points, shattering the previous record of 145. The Flashes also obliterated record for widest margin of victory, outscoring their closest competitor by 81 points.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week’s competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference’s faculty athletic representatives.
