Ben Bennett, Central Michigan—Senior, Rockford, Mich. (Rockford High School)
Central Michigan senior Ben Bennett closed his regular season with a 15-0 technical fall victory at the 6:25 mark over Michigan State's Eric Ford to help lead the Chippewas to their 12th straight victory over the Spartans. Bennett finished the regular season a perfect 24-0, but more impressively has won each of his last four matches by technical fall and earned bonus points in 21 matches. The No. 2 ranked 184 pounder in the country seems poised to win his fourth MAC title in two weeks and make a serious run at becoming the second National Champion in Central Michigan program history.
Nick Whitenburg, Eastern Michigan—Junior, Temperance, Mich. (Bedford High School)
Eastern Michigan junior Nick Whitenburg went 3-1 for a second place finish at 197 lbs. at the National Collegiate Open in Richmond, Va. last Sunday. He won his first three matches of the day by technical fall, fall and decision, respectively. Whitenburg earned National Collegiate Open All-American status for his top-six showing.
Ian Miller, Kent State—Sophomore, Oak Harbor, Ohio
Kent State sophomore Ian Miller won the 157-pound bracket of the National Collegiate Open Sunday, going 5-0 with two pins and a major decision. His only close bout was a 7-4 decision over Bloomsburg’s Busler in the semifinals. Miller pinned Virginia Tech’s Sal Mastriani and Illinois’ Zack Brunson. He is 25-7 on the year with eight pins and seven major decisions.
Andrew Morse, Northern Illinois—Freshman, Alto, Mich. (Lowell High School)
Northern Illinois freshman Andrew Morse got a pair of wins Sunday in Northern Illinois regular season finale against Gardner-Webb and Cleveland State. The freshman began the day with a 7-2 decision against 2011 NCAA qualifier Alex Medved of Gardner-Webb. Morse capped off the day with a third period pin against Cleveland State's Mike Mencini. The pair of wins boosted the freshman into the top five on the team in wins with 17 on the year.
