Autumn Duke, Ball State
Senior, Fishers, Ind. (Hamilton Southeastern)
Duke placed 18th out of 64 golfers to lead Ball State this week at the Jim West Challenge in Blanco, Texas. The senior improved in every round, finishing with a 54-hole total of 239 (83-79-77) on a par-72, 6,216-yard layout at Vaaler Creek Golf Club. She helped the Cardinals to a sixth-place result in a 12-team field, finishing just two strokes out of fourth place. The tournament included four teams ranked among the nation's top 100. Duke recorded five birdies in the second round alone and then used a steady closing 18 holes to climb seven spots on the final leaderboard into 18th place.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Louis Birchall, Akron
Freshman, Ingestre Park, England (Blessed William Howard Catholic)
Louis Birchall led the Zips to a 14th-place finish at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate earlier this week, posting a three-round score of 226 (+10). He posted rounds of 3-over 75, 5-over 77 and 2-over 74 to finish tied for 44th place in the Zips’ second event in as many weeks. His round of 74 tied his career low.
Brad Burgess, Ohio University
Freshman, St. Catharine’s Ontario (Ridley College)
Burgess paced the Bobcats during their week in the greater Hilton Head area with a pair of strong finishes. The talented freshman won his match, 3 & 2, on Saturday to help Ohio defeat BIG EAST foe DePaul at Chechessee Creek Country Club in Okatie, S.C. From there, Burgess earned a 53rd-place finish at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate (Feb. 18-19) after playing the course at 19-over par (77-79-79-235) during the event.
Sarah Johnson, Eastern Michigan
Wixom, Mich. (Walled Lake Central)
Eastern Michigan was led by Sarah Johnson on Monday with a 77, which put her in a tie for seventh place overall for the tournament with a 233 (81-75-77). After posting a score of 640 (325-315) in the first day of competition, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team shot a 330 on Monday, dropping them to seventh place overall at the Jim West Challenge. The Eagles managed a 970 (325-315-330) overall for the tournament, while it was No. 39 Texas State University that claimed the top spot with a team score of 930 (304-317-309) at the par 72 Vaaler Creek Golf Club course.
Allie Parthie, Northern Illinois
Senior, Marinette, Wis (Marinette)
Allie Parthie opened the spring portion of her season with a second place finish to lead Northern Illinois University to a second-place showing at the Gary Freeman Bethune-Cookman University Spring Invitational. Parthie shot a 157, shooting a first round 78 and a 79 in the second round. It was her best finish on the 2012-13 season, beating her third-place finish at the Green Bay Invitational in the season opener in the fall.
Sathika Ruenreong, Toledo
Freshman, Kanchanaburi, Thailand
Freshman Sathika Ruenreong led the Rockets to a fifth-place finish in its first spring event at the Le Triomphe Invitational in Broussard, LA. Ruenreong shot a 233 (78-76-79), good for an eighth-place finish and her third-straight Top 10 showing.
