Cleveland, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference has announced today that the upcoming women's basketball game between Toledo and Central Michigan has been selected as part of the conference's regional February basketball television package on SportsTime Ohio. In addition, Comcast Michigan will pick up the broadcast to air the game live in the host state.
These west division rivals will meet for the second time in 2013, on Sunday, February 24 at 2 PM in Mount Pleasant, Michigan at McGuirk Arena. Earlier this season, Central Michigan pulled off a come-from-behind win on the road to edge the Rockets in each team’s 2013 MAC opener, 73-66, at Savage Arena.
The Rockets (18-2, 6-1 MAC) have regrouped since the heartbreaker, as UT currently is riding a six-game winning streak and holds the best overall record in the MAC at 18-2. Toledo is led by a quartet of Rockets that provide balanced scoring across the board at over eight points per game during MAC play. Toledo’s four starters of Naama Shafir (10.0 ppg), Andola Dortch (12.1 ppg), Yolanda Richardson (9.3 ppg) and Inma Zanoguera (9.4 ppg) account for nearly 70% of the Rockets’ scoring during MAC play so far.
The Chippewas (13-7, 7-0 MAC) are the last undefeated team in MAC play at 7-0. It is CMU’s first 7-0 start in conference play since the 1983-84 season. CMU welcomed the league play following a 6-7 nonconference record to start the season, which at times ranked as the sixth toughest schedule in the country. Central Michigan enters this weekend’s game with the top scoring offense in the league registering 80.7 points per game, while allowing only 56.0 per game leading to the top scoring margin in the MAC at 24.7 points per. Through the first seven games of the MAC campaign sophomore Crystal Bradford leads the MAC with 18.7 points per game, is second in rebounding with 11.0 boards per game and is second in assists with 4.9 per MAC contest. So far on the season, the Detroit native has collected the MAC West Player of the Week award five different times, including three consecutive honors in January.
Mid-American Conference league play continues this weekend as all 12 squads will take the courts Saturday and Sunday. SportsTime Ohio will broadcast the Miami at Northern Illinois game Sunday February 3rd at 2 PM from DeKalb, Illinois. The broadcast will also be available on the MAC Digital Network and picked up by Comcast SportsNet Chicago, ESPN Full Court and ESPN3.
