Cleveland, Ohio -- The Mid-American Conference has announced today that the upcoming men's basketball game between Ohio and Kent State has been selected for the conference's national February basketball television package on ESPNU.
First-year Ohio Head Coach Jim Christian and the Bobcats will host Kent State Head Coach Rob Senderoff and the Golden Flashes in a MAC East Division contest on Saturday, February 16th at 11 a.m. ET. The two teams just met this past Saturday in a game that came down to the wire as Ohio edged Kent State, 69-68.
The Bobcats (15-5, 6-0 MAC) have won seven straight following Saturday’s victory over the Golden Flashes. Ohio's win over Kent State marked the first time since the 1973-74 season in which the `Cats have gone 6-0 in league games. It also marked the first time since the 1992-93 campaign in which Ohio had gone 3-0 on the road to open conference play. Ohio’s D.J. Cooper has won MAC Player of the Week honors four times this season and became the first Ohio player to ever record 300 career steals this weekend. Cooper has also recorded 855 assists for his career, which moved him into a tie for 20th place on the NCAA Division I all-time assists list.
The Golden Flashes (11-9, 2-4 MAC) have dropped three straight contests. Kent State's two seniors, Chris Evans (17.1 ppg) & Randal Holt (14.0 ppg), combine to average 31.1 points per game which is the 3rd highest-scoring duo in the MAC this season, trailing Rian Pearson & Julius Brown of Toledo & Jordon Crawford and A'uston Calhoun of BGSU.
Mid-American Conference league play continues Wednesday as all 12 teams take the hardwood. SportsTime Ohio will air the Akron at Bowling Green game live that night at 7 p.m.
