Cleveland, Ohio -- The Mid-American Conference has announced today that the upcoming men's basketball game between Kent State and Akron has been selected for the conference's national January basketball television package on ESPNU.
Kent State Head Coach Rob Senderoff and the Golden Flashes will host Akron Head Coach Keith Dambrot and the Zips in a MAC rivalry match-up on Saturday, January 19th at 3 p.m. ET.
Kent State (9-5, 0-0 MAC) is currently on a four-game winning streak after defeating Cleveland State by a score of 72-55 last night. Kent State seniors Chris Evans and Randal Holt continue to lead the Golden Flashes in scoring. Evans is averaging 16.5 per game, while Holt is averaging 13.4 per game and leading the MAC in three-pointers made with 33.
Akron (9-4, 0-0 MAC) has won its last five games after taking down Coppin State last night, 91-63. The Zips are currently riding a four-game winning streak against the Golden Flashes, including a 3-0 sweep of KSU last season. Two of those wins have come in the MAC Tournament, including the 2011 title game. Akron has two players scoring in double figures and is the only team in the MAC with seven players averaging 7.0 points or better, including Zeke Marshall (13.3), Demetrius "Tree" Treadwell (10.9), Nick Harney (9.9), Alex Abreu (9.3), Brian Walsh (8.3), Jake Kretzer (7.8) and Chauncey Gilliam (7.3).
Mid-American Conference league play begins on Wedensday, January 9th as all 12 teams take the hardwood. The FirstEnergy MAC Men's Basketball Tournament will take place once again at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena on March 13-16.
