Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris used a 12-0 run midway through the second half to overcome a five-point deficit and the Colonials pulled away down the stretch to defeat the Bowling Green men's basketball team Monday night 71-60 in the 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off Consolation Round.
 
Bowling Green shot a season-best 49 percent from the field as A’uston Calhoun scored a game-high 17 points and Jordon Crawford followed with 16. The Falcons also made 8-of-21 three-pointers, including 5-of-9 in the first half as BGSU went into the half tied at 29-29.
 
In fact, Bowling Green used an 11-0 run in the first half to lead by as many as nine. All 11 points were scored by players other than Calhoun and Crawford. Jehvon Clarke hit a pair of three-pointers and James Erger added another, while Cam Black hit a jumper as the Falcons took a 24-15 lead.
 
Robert Morris chipped away at the lead, closing to within one before a Crawford three-pointer with 1:54 left put the Falcons up 29-25. A pair of free-throws from Coron Williams and a lay-up from Mike McFadden tied the score by the break.
 
Early in the second half, Bowling Green took the lead back, building to a 49-44 advantage on a Craig Sealey three-point play with 9:59 to play. But Robert Morris scored the next 12 points, all of which came on three-pointers or three-point plays to take a 56-49 lead.
 
Sealey’s jumper with 6:08 remaining got Bowling Green back within four at 59-55, but the Falcons went 0-for-4 from the free-throw line on their next two possessions, while Robert Morris went 4-for-4 to put the game away. BGSU did not get closer than six the rest of the way.
 
For the game, Bowling Green made just 4-of-11 free-throws and the Falcons were outrebounded 23-13 in the second half after holding a 13-10 edge on the boards in the first. BGSU also turned the ball over 20 times, four more than Robert Morris. Those 20 turnovers turned into 26 points for the Colonials.
 
Calhoun was 7-of-12 shooting and added five rebounds and two blocked shots. Crawford was 6-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-6 on three-pointers, and added three assists and three steals. Clarke came off the bench to score eight points, making a pair of three-pointers, and had three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot. Sealey had seven points, all in the second half, and four rebounds. Erger added six points, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot. Black had six points, five rebounds and a block in his first start of the year.
 
Robert Morris improved to 2-3 on the year with the win and Bowling Green falls to 1-3. The Falcons will face Alabama-Huntsville, at 3-2 on the season, Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the final contest of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
