Philadelphia, Pa. - Taylor Brown started the game with a goal and Katherine Fenzel closed the first half with another tally as Ohio defeated St. Joseph's this afternoon, 2-0. Brittany Walker earned her second shutout of 2012 as the 'Cats improved to 5-5.
 
Ohio scored less than a minute into the contest when Brown scooped up a loose ball and blasted a shot from the top of the "D". It was the sixth goal of the season for the senior, who came into the game leading the MAC with 1.67 points per game.
 
The Bobcats closed the half by doubling their advantage on a goal from Fenzel. The junior pounced on a loose ball in front of the cage and gave Ohio a 2-0 advantage heading into intermission. It was Fenzel's first goal of the season and fourth of her career.
 
Ohio held an 11-3 advantage in shots as Jessica Vaeth, Jessica Jue and Cathryn Altdoerffer all tested SJU goalkeeper Kate Mitchell. The Bobcats had a 3-2 edge in penalty corners with Walker denying Jordan Martin with two minutes remaining in the half for her only save.
 
After Walker denied Martin at the onset of the second half, Ohio tallied the next four attempts, three by Brown and one by Laura Mastro. Walker entered the game leading the league with a 2.06 goals against average and was second in the MAC with a .738 save percentage.
 
The Bobcat defense held SJU to only one shot in the second half after Martin's initial try and dominated possession for the remainder of the contest. Ohio tacked on eight more shots and finished with 19 for the contest.
 
The Bobcats take on their third ranked opponent of the season, Wednesday, Oct. 3, when they travel to No. 15 Wake Forest for a 5 p.m. contest.
