MAC Announces Men's & Women's Cross Country Runners Of The Week

MAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Juli Accurso, Ohio
Junior, Casstown, Ohio (Miami East)
Accurso, who is coming off an All-American season in 2011, picked up right where she left off from a year ago as she won the 6-K Harry Groves Invitational race, posting a time of 21:03. Accurso posted an average pace of 5:51 to claim the race. Dating back to last season, Accurso has now won four races, including the 2011 MAC Championships.

MAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Kyle Stacks, Central Michigan
Sophomore, Concord, Mich. (Concord)

Stacks finished runner-up at the Badger Opener in Madison, Wisc., in a time of 18:52 for an approximately 6k course to lead the Chippewas. He was within two seconds of winning the race, which was his season debut.

Moore took first place in the women's 5K to lead the Zips to dual meet wins over Malone, Kent State, Youngstown State and Marshall at the 44th running of the Tommy Evans Invitational at Firestone Metro Park last Thursday. The sophomore from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, crossed the line first among 47 competitors with a time of 18:34, which was seven seconds faster than any other runner on the day.

Event: IPFW Invitational – 5K

Finishing Time: 18:33.25
MaryKate Mellen posted a season-fast 5K time of 18:33.25 at the IPFW Invitational to place second among the field and help the Cardinals earn a 2-1 record in a triple dual meet with the Cardinals scoring wins over both IUPUI (24-31) and host IPFW (25-30), while losing to Oakland (25-30). Mellen has led the Cardinals in each of the last eight meets dating back to last season.
Krista Parks, Central Michigan

Parks finished seventh at the 5k Badger Opener in Madison, Wisc. in a career-best 17:59 in her season-debut.
Victoria Voronko, Eastern Michigan
Sophomore, Moscow, Russia (University of Moscow)
1st at George Dales Invitational (21:55.72)
Sophomore Victoria Voronko claimed the George Dales Invitational title for the second consecutive year as she turned in a first place time of 21:55.72.  It is her second top five finish of the season and the second time this year that she has paced the Eagles' runners.  The first place finish helped the Eagles claim a share of the team title with Hope College, as both teams turned in final scores of 30 points.  
Michael Heller, Kent State

Senior Michael Heller took the individual title at the Tommy Evans Invitational with a time of 20:28.  Heller's first career first place finish helped Kent State take second place at the event.
Courtney Oldenburg, Northern Illinois

Oldenburg broke the 34-year old NIU record on a 5K course Friday evening at the NIU Open when she placed third with a time of 18:07.81, helping the Huskies take third place behind only Northwestern and Marquette. Hanging with the lead pack for the vast majority of the race, the West Salem, Wis., native sat in fourth entering the final 100 meters. With the help of a raucous home crowd, Oldenburg overtook NU's Lexie Goldsmith in the final meters to cross the finish line inches ahead of. Her time eclipsed NIU's previous record of 18:12, which was set in 1978 by Colleen Buck. Combined with her 6K record from 2010, Oldenburg now sits atop both lists in NIU history.
Tyler Ames, Ohio

Senior Tyler Ames was the Bobcats' top finisher at the Harry Groves Invitational as he placed 28th in a time of 26:58 to help the Bobcats to a seventh-place finish at the Harry Groves Invitational.
