MAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Mackenzie Chojnacky, Toledo
Sophomore
Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener
Finish: First Place
Time: 18:12.60
Mackenzie won the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener with a time of 18:12.60, marking her first-career win at the collegiate level in her fifth race as a Rocket. She was the first of five sophomores to finish in the top six for No. 23 Toledo.

Jarrod Eick, Miami
Senior, Hartville, Ohio (Marlington)
Event: Flyer 5K Challenge in Kettering, Ohio (University of Dayton)
Finish: 1st place
Time: 15:19.7
Eick repeated as individual champion at the season-opening Flyer 5K Challenge Saturday, winning the University of Dayton-hosted meet for the second straight year. He won the meet in 15:19.7, besting his winning time from 2011 by four seconds. Eick finished three seconds ahead of his teammate and six seconds ahead of anyone else in the field. His fourth career individual title helped the RedHawks to a second-place team finish behind Ohio State but ahead of the host Flyers and Wright State among other Division II and NAIA schools.

Koch returned to the cross country team this season after red shirting last year. In Kock’s return, she led all Bowling Green runners with a seventh place finish at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener. Koch finished the 5K with a time of 18:59.00, an average mile time of 6:06.6. Koch’s finish led the Falcons to a second place finish, edging out MAC foes Eastern Michigan and Ball State in the process. 

Gabby Leo, Buffalo

Finish in Event: 13th of 110
Finishing Time: 16:47 (4.2K)
Leo led the Bulls with her 13th-place finish at the Harry Lang Invite as UB placed five runners in the top 35. UB finished fourth among 11 teams in the team scoring.
 
Zach Ahart, Buffalo

Event: Colgate Harry Lang Invite
Finish in Event: 14th of 106
Finishing Time: 20:36 (6.4K)
Conway was UB's top finisher at Colgate's Harry Lang Invite in 20:36 for the 6.4K course to place 14th overall. The Bulls finished fourth among 11 teams behind three regional ranked programs in Syracuse, Navy and American.
 
Victoria Voronko, Eastern Michigan

Voronko opened the 2012 season with a strong second place showing at the Mel Brodt Invitational hosted by Bowling Green State University Friday, August 31. The returning All-MAC selection turned in a time of 18:23.00 to lead the Eagles to a third place team finish.  The second place finish is the second best of her young career at Eastern.  Victoria comes into 2012 looking to improve on her fourth place finish at the 2011 MAC Championships, and 36th place finish at the NCAA Regionals.
 
Jess Hoover, Miami

Hoover led Miami to a runner-up team finish Saturday at the season-opening Flyer 5K Challenge. She finished fourth individually as Miami’s top scorer for the second straight year at the meet. Her fourth-place finish was a career best. Hoover clocked 18:36, trimming 19 seconds off her time from last year’s meet when she finished fifth. She finished behind only three Ohio State runners as the Buckeyes won the team title. The RedHawks were ahead of the host Flyers, Cincinnati, Wright State and Cleveland State among other schools.
 
Courtney Oldenburg, Northern Illinois

Event: UIC Opener (Two miles)
Finish: First Place
Finishing Time: 11:24.90
Oldenburg earned her first career victory Saturday with an 11:24.90 clip at the UIC Opener, helping the Huskies take the top four spots in the final standings and win the team title. The senior from West Salem, Wis., broke the tape six seconds ahead of second place, which was NIU freshman Ali Olson. Oldenburg shaved 24 seconds off of her performance at the same meet last season, where she finished 12th.
 
Jake Kasperski, Toledo

Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener (Bowling Green)

Jake captured his first-career victory, in his seventh collegiate race, to open up the 2012 season. He led the Rockets, who as a team finished in 10 of the top-12 spots, to a first-place finish in the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener over host Bowling Green and Madonna University.
