Today I'm heading to Soldier Field to watch the Northern Illinois Huskies take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Very excited to watch some football in downtown Chicago! Looking forward to a great game!
There is nothing quite like a college football Saturday. Especially when it's the first one of the season. The hopes are high and the excitement is off the charts for the coaches, players and fans! Definitely excited for Social Media Road Tour stop #2.
8:30 AM ET - Finished up the Gameday Central page on MAC-Sports.com while waiting for my flight from Cleveland to Chicago. Chi-town is one of my favorite cities in the US so it's a shame I have a little over 24 hours to spend there. Side Note: I can't express enough how nice it is to jump on a plane with nothing more than a backpack!
10:00 AM CT- Pretty proud of myself for actually getting to the game without getting lost. The CTA-Orange Line made it a piece of cake to get here without any issues. It's an overcast day here in Chicago but wow is Soldier Field is a beautiful facility! Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure.
11:00 AM-Noon CT - Had to pay $2 to use the internet but that's really not that big of a deal. I've heard of some NFL Stadiums being a lot higher than that. You have to like my setup for today's game though. I don't think I'll miss a minute of anything as long as I have the laptop, iPad and WatchESPN app. After all, gotta follow all of today's MACtion!!
By the way, today's food: Hamburgers, Hotdogs & Chips. Pretty standard so I give it a score of 6.3.
1:00 PM CT - Met up with today's MAC Football Social Media Road Tour correspondents. Today's crew is Brian Eberly (@BEberly18), Jason Boice (@Boiceterous) & Nick Rex (@NickRexum). Be sure to give @ExperienceMAC a follow on Twitter because all three of these guys will be pushing content there all afternoon.
2:30 PM CT - Went down on the field for pregame warmups with the @ExperienceMAC crew. We were all able to take some photos and watch as both teams went through their pregame routines. Time for today's game to begin. Make sure you tune into ESPNU at 3:30 p.m. ET/2:30 pm. CT to catch all the action.
5:00 PM CT -
The Huskies go into the locker room with a 10-6 halftime lead over Iowa. NIU doing a very good job of clock management and is playing very good defense. Hopefully it keeps up in the second half! In other good news, the press box food score has gone up to a 7.1 due to the addition of pretzels with cheese, fruit and cookies.
7:00 PM CT - I
owa scored its only touchdown of the game on a 23-yard run by Damon Bullock with 2:15 to play, lifting the Hawkeyes to an 18-17 victory over Northern Illinois. The 52,117 that came out to Soldier Field were treated to one heck of a ballgame today. The Huskies outplayed the Hawkeyes for 58 minutes but unfortunaley that's why they play 60. The @ExperienceMAC crew rounded out the day by attending the NIU postgame press conference.
9:00 PM CT -
Despite the outcome, it was a fantastic day in Chicago. Soldier Field was a great place to watch a football game and I'm glad my guys that were picked for @ExperienceMAC
had a good time. It was a long day so after wrapping up the game and taking the subway back to the hotel I closed out the day in Chicago the only way I knew how -- with a deep dish pizza from Giordano's (it was as good as the picture looks).
So long Chi-town. It was real. -- @JGuyMAC
