KENT, Ohio — Four different players scored goals to lead Kent State to a 4-2 win over host Vermont on Tuesday afternoon at Murphy-Mellis Field.  The victory was the second straight for the Golden Flashes which end their three-game homestand to start the year at 2-1.

While defense was the name of the game in a 1-0 shutout of James Madison on Sunday, it was the balanced Kent State offense that flexed its muscle on Tuesday.  Eight different players combined for 24 shots by the Golden Flashes.  The aggressiveness led to four goals which came of the sick of four different players.

After falling behind 1-0 in the 10th minute, sophomore Julia Hofmann (Bad Muenster, Germany) scored for the third time in as many games this season, scoring on a direct corner to pull the Golden Flashes even at the 12:42 mark.  Hofmann, who was assisted by sophomores Sabrina Binder (Krefeld, Germany) and Abbie Carrico (Willow Street, Pa.), has now either scored a goal or had an assist in nine consecutive games dating back to the 2011 season.

Just over a minute later junior Rebecca Lee (Bathurst, Australia) led a 2-on-1 breakaway and found sophomore Hannah Faulkner (Edwardsville, Ill.) on the left post to put Kent State ahead to stay.  Lee extended the lead in the second half with a goal of her own.

After Vermont (0-3) made it interesting with a goal off a deflection in the 67th minute, sophomore Shannon Martin (Williamsville, N.Y.) helped seal the win in the final minute by providing her third score of the year.

Sophomore Jahna Jordan (Fallbrook, Calif.) posted four saves in goal for Kent State.

Next up, the Golden Flashes are schedule to travel to New England where they will play at Boston University on Saturday at 5:00 pm and at Providence on Monday at 12:00 pm.
