Blue Ribbon Analysis
Head Coach: Dave Clawson (Williams College, '89)
2011 Overall/Conference Record: 5-7 (3-5 MAC)
Offense Starters Returning/Lost: 8/3
Defense Starters Returning/Lost: 10/1
The quarterback (Matt Schilz) is among the best in the league. There is skill in the backfield and on the line. The defense should be improved. The question is what happens to the Falcons get in a tight game? If they make the plays and win more than they lose, they have a great chance to return to a bowl for the first time since 2009.

They will be tested in the non-conference, playing a pair of traditional powers on the road. The Falcons open at Florida, which will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2011 season. Three weeks later, after a home game with Idaho and the traditional rivalry game at Toledo, the Falcons travel to Virginia Tech.

The critical games for the Falcons are within the conference. They avoid three of the four best teams in the West Division: Northern Illinois, Western Michigan & Ball State. Split at Toledo in September and at Ohio in early November and Bowling Green will have a chance to win the East. Lose both and the Falcons will still have a chance to become bowl eligible.
