Toledo Rocket Quick Links
Blue Ribbon Analysis
Head Coach: Matt Campbell (Mount Union, '02)
2011 Overall/Conference Record: 9-4 (7-1 MAC)
Offense Starters Returning/Lost: 5/6
Defense Starters Returning/Lost: 4/7
It's the first year of the Matt Campbell regime, but there's not a lot of new schemes and plays for the players to learn. Tim Beckman, who left to head the Illinois program, didn't take a lot of his staff with him. Counting Campbell, a total of five members of last year's staff remain with the Rockets.
The key will be how the defense improves on last year's numbers and if enough playmakers can emerge in the receiving corps to compliment the quarterback tandem of senior Austin Dantin and junior Terrance Owens, who have a firm grasp of Campbell's offense.
If the Toledo offense can come close to producing anywhere near the level it did last year and the defense improves, this is a team that can challenge for a MAC title.
The Rockets get Arizona and Cincinnati from AQ BCS conferences, but they proved they're not afraid of the big-name teams when they went to Ohio State and nearly knocked off the Buckeyes last year. Pull an upset and take care of business in the MAC and this can be a special season in Toledo.
