The Mid-American Conference is represented by Western Michigan quarterback Alex Carder and Ohio quarterback Tyler Tettleton on the 2012 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List. Carder and Tettleton are two of 29 quarterbacks on this year's list.

Carder had an outstanding season in 2011, leading the Broncos to a Little Caesar’s Bowl appearance. He threw for a school record 3,873 yards with 31 touchdowns and a 145.3 efficiency rating. He also tied a school record with seven 300-yard passing games, including a school-record 497-yard effort against UConn. Western Michigan opens its 2012 season on Sept. 1, playing on the road at Illinois.

Tettleton was also an exceptional performer in 2011 as he debuted as the Bobcats starter and set 12 school records, including 3,306 passing yards and 28 touchdowns. He was also second on the team in rushing with 658 yards and 10 scores. The junior leads Ohio into the 2011 campaign on Sept. 1 with a challenging road game at Penn State.

The prestigious award bears the name of the man who many refer to as the finest quarterback to ever play the game of football. Established in 1987, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award has previously honored 25 outstanding young men.
