BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Jake Thomas, a sophomore from Litchfield, Ohio, has been named the male recipient of the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week award for the week of February 27—March 4. Thomas, who holds an accumulative 3.307 GPA in health science, sparked the Falcons last week leading them to their first two wins.
Thomas gave the Falcons a spark from the leadoff spot last week, reaching base 11 times in his 15 plate appearances. He was 9-13 on the week with two triples. In a 5-2 win at Dayton, Thomas was two-for-four and was on base three times. He also scored two runs with an RBI in the game. Thomas continued his strong week in the Russ Matt Invitational, going four-for-five in a 12-4 win against Mount St. Mary’s. In that game, Thomas scored two runs and had two RBI. The outfielder was on base five times in the contest with the Mountaineers. In a loss to Northeastern on Sunday, Thomas went three-for-four. He recorded three-of-five team hits in the game.
Thomas, who is a graduate of Medina Buckeye High School, is the son of Jerry and Mary Thomas. On the season, he is batting .476 (10-21), with three RBI and four runs scored. He has appeared in seven games, starting five.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week’s competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference’s faculty athletic representatives.
