CLEVELAND, Ohio—The No. 5 seed Central Michigan Chippewas (18-14, 8-8) defeated the No. 8 seed Ohio University Bobcats (14-18, 6-10) 58-55, Tuesday afternoon during the second round of the 2012 Mid-American Conference inside the Quicken Loans Arena.
The Chippewas led by as many as ten points in the first half yet allowed the Bobcats to post a 20-10 run to knot things up 31-31.
The Chippewas would recover in the second half by way of freshman Crystal Bradford. Bradford was named the Powerade Player of the Game with 17 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Not to be outdone, CMU freshman Jessica Green gathered in 16 points, three rebounds, one assist and two steals.
The Chippewas saw success in the first half by going a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe and shooting 62.5 percent from the field. The Chippewas would finish shooting 40.7 percent from the field and holding off the Bobcat’s 33.9 shooting percentage from the field.
Ohio’s Tenishia Benson did most of the work for the Bobcats finishing with 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists, a block, and two steals. Freshman Mariah Byard finished with 13 points and sophomore Shavon Robinson finished with 12 points for the Bobcats.
The Chippewas will face No. 4 Miami in the MAC Quarterfinals tomorrow, March 8th at Noon.
