Cleveland, Ohio - Today the Mid-American Conference announced the All-MAC First Team, Second Team, Third Team and Honorable Mention selections for the 2011-12 season. The teams were voted on by the league's head coaches. The league's All-Freshman team was also announced today.
Buffalo’s Mitchell Watt headlined the All-MAC first team after being selected as this year's MAC Player of the Year. Joining Watt on the first team is teammate Javon McCrea, Ohio's D.J. Cooper, Kent State’s Justin Greene and Miami’s Julian Mavunga. This is the second consecutive season that Cooper and Greene have been named to the first team.
The All-MAC Second Team featured Akron’s Zeke Marshall and Alex Abreu, Ball State’s Jarrod Jones, Bowling Green’s A'uston Calhoun and Toledo’s Rian Pearson.
All-MAC Third Team honors went to Akron’s Nikola Cvetinovic, Bowling Green’s Scott Thomas, Central Michigan’s Trey Zeigler, Eastern Michigan’s Darrell Lampley and Kent State’s Michael Porrini.
Honorable mention recognition went to Kent State’s Randal Holt and Carlton Guyton, Ohio’s Ivo Baltic and Walter Offutt, Toledo’s Curtis Dennis and Western Michigan’s Flenard Whitfield.
The MAC All-Freshman team was led by MAC Freshman of the Year Julius Brown (Toledo). Joining Brown on this year’s squad was Ball State’s Aaron Adeoye, Central Michigan’s Austin McBroom, Miami’s Brian Sullivan and Northern Illinois’ Abdel Nader.
Men's Second Round action takes place tonight at Quicken Loans Arena as No. 12 Northern Illinois takes on No. 8 Western Michigan at 7 p.m., while No. 11 Central Michigan takes on No. 7 Toledo at 9:30 p.m. Both games will be televised on SportsTime Ohio.
