Cleveland, Ohio -- The Mid-American Conference announced today that three upcoming men's basketball games have been selected for the MAC basketball television package on ESPN and SportsTime Ohio.
Wednesday’s February 29th game between Ohio and Kent State (7 p.m., STO), Friday’s March 2nd game featuring Akron and Kent State (7 p.m., ESPN2) and Saturday’s March 3rd game between Bowling Green and Buffalo (6 p.m., STO) have all been chosen for television.
Akron continues to lead the MAC East Division with a 19-7 record, 11-1 in the league, and has won eight-straight games and 16-of-18 overall. UA’s 74-59 win over Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday gave the Zips the first 11-1 start to league play in the MAC since Kent State went 11-1 in the 2003-04 season. The Zips currently lead the league in five categories (scoring offense, scoring margin, field goal percentage, 3-point percentage and 3-point defense) and are in the top-three in five additional stats.
Winners of seven straight Kent State (19-6; 9-3 MAC) is on the verge of its 13th 20 win season in the last 14 years. With four league games remaining, the Golden Flashes are now tied for second in the MAC East Division and overall conference standings.
The Bobcats (20-6, 8-4 MAC) won their 20th game of the season last night with a victory over Bowling Green, 72-59. The ‘Cats have three players averaging in double figures with Cooper leading the way at 13.6 points per game. Walter Offutt is averaging 11.9 points per game and Ivo Baltic is chipping in 10.1 points per game for the Bobcats.
Buffalo is 16-7 overall and 9-3 in the conference and is coming off a 71-76 loss to Kent State Tuesday night. The Bulls lead the MAC and ranks sixth in the nation in field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 37.4 percent from the field. In addition, UB’s opponents are averaging just 61.3 points per game.
Bowling Green is currently 13-12 overall and 7-5 in MAC play following the loss to Ohio last night. The Falcons are 4-1 in February, tying November for most wins in a month this year. Offensively, Bowling Green has played well in Mid-American Conference play, ranking third (.466) in the league in field goal percentage and fifth in three-point percentage (.350).
