• Toledo takes on its final opponent prior to opening Mid-American Conference play when it hosts NAIA foe Indiana-Northwest on Tuesday, Jan. 3 in Savage Arena at 7:00 p.m. The Rockets posted an 80-44 victory over the RedHawks last year in the two schools’ initial meeting. UT has dropped its last three contests but the Midnight Blue and Gold has already surpassed its win totals from each of the 2009-10 and 2010-11 campaigns when it posted identical 4-28 win-loss marks. With one more victory, the Rockets would top their 7-25 ledger in the 2008-09 season and have their most wins in four years. Sophomore G Rian Pearson is leading UT with 15.8 ppg and 8.1 rpg. He is joined in double figures by freshman G Julius Brown (13.2 ppg) and junior G Dominique Buckley (12.9 ppg) with the trio ranking among the MAC’s Top 12 scorers...Indiana-Northwest (2-12) nearly upset No. 25 Campbellsville Univ. on Friday evening but came up on the short end of a 64-61 decision to the Tigers.

• Western Michigan lost at Duke Friday and has also suffered defeats to Gonzaga, Purdue, Temple and Colorado. WMU has played just four home games this year but has won all four. The Broncos are averaging better than 70 points per game but giving up more than 76 per contest. Matt Stainbrook is averaging team-highs in points (14.3) and rebounds (9.3) per game over the last three games The Broncos rank second in the MAC in rebounding margin with a +4.1 average...Milwaukee saw its 12-game regular season Horizon League unbeaten streak snapped in a 54-50 loss at Butler Saturday. Milwaukee’s defense is leading the way this season. The Panthers are allowing only 57.9 points per game and opponents are shooting just 39.3 percent from the floor.
