HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Five Akron players scored in double figures as the Zips snapped a four-game road-losing streak with a 67-51 win over Marshall on Sunday afternoon.

Nikola Cvetinovic led all scorers with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting while Chauncey Gilliam finished with 12 points and Alex Abreu, Zeke Marshall and Demetrius Treadwell finished with 10 points each.

The Zips (8-6) closed the game shooting 45.9 percent from the floor (28-of-61) and forced 14 Marshall (9-4) turnovers. Akron committed just eight turnovers and had 16 assists on 28 made buckets. Akron finished with 40 points in the paint, including 26 in the second half alone.

Treadwell led all players with nine boards, including an impressive eight on the offensive glass.

Akron opened the second half with a strong 9-3 run to take a 36-30 lead and force a Herd timeout with 16:16 to go in the game. Quincy Diggs pushed the Zips' advantage to 41-32 with 14:51 on the clock thanks to a long 3-pointer.

A Cvetinovic layup and a fast break layup by Abreu from Gilliam pushed the Akron advantage to 53-39 at the 8:45 mark of the second half. Eighteen of Akron's 26 points in the second half to that point came in the paint (14 in the first half).

Nick Harney gave Akron its largest lead of the day (18) with a dunk at the 4:43 mark to force MU's fourth timeout. The dunk gave the Zips a 62-44 advantage. The lead would hold, as MU would not get any close than 13 points.

After the repair delay to start the game, the Zips opened up the contest by posting the first eight points, forcing MU to call timeout with 16:58 on the clock (8-0). The Herd cut the lead to 10-8 with 13:43 left in the half, but could not take the lead.

After the Herd took its first lead of the half (16-15) with 7:29 to go before the intermission, the Zips regained the lead on their next possession. From there, Akron would hold at least a share of the lead as the teams went to the locker room deadlocked at 27-27.

The Zips closed the half shooting 35.5 percent from the floor (11-of-31) and forced eight MU turnovers while posting an assist on 7-of-11 buckets. Akron converted eight offensive boards into 11 second-chance points.

Akron opens Mid-American Conference play on Jan. 7 when it travels to Oxford, Ohio, to face Miami (Ohio). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

San Antonio, Texas – Torian Oglesby set a school and an NCAA Division I record Sunday, but Bowling Green lost to Texas San Antonio 86-79 in overtime Sunday afternoon.

Oglesby set a school record by making all 10 of his field goal attempts, breaking a record set by teammate A’uston Calhoun less than a month ago in a win over Malone Dec. 7. Calhoun went 9-for-9 in that contest by Oglesby beat him by one made basket. Oglesby has also made 26 consecutive field goal attempts over the past seven games, which sets a new NCAA Division I record. The previous mark of 25 straight was set by Ray Voelkel of American University in 1978 over the course of nine games.

Oglesby had career-highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass, but he had just one of a handful of strong individual efforts. Jordon Crawford had 16 points and a career-best 11 assists. Calhoun added 13 points, all in the second half, and Scott Thomas posted 10 rebounds. Dee Brown also tied his career best with seven rebounds.

Those individual performances were not enough, though, for the Falcons to overcome 15 first-half turnovers and a strong three-point shooting night by UTSA, which went 11-of-17 from long range.

UTSA never trailed in the first half and took control as Bowling Green turned the ball over more than it had in any other half this year. Even with those struggles, Oglesby and Crawford scored on back-to-back lay-ups to get the Falcons within five points late in the half. UTSA’s Jeromie Hill connected on a three-pointer to close out the scoring in the first half and give the Roadrunners a 29-21 lead.

In the second half, Bowling Green got the offense going, scoring 43 points, and eventually tying the score on a Crawford three-pointer with 13:49 to play. Calhoun followed with a lay-up to give the Falcons their first lead of the game but neither team led by more than four points through the remainder of the period.

With the score tied at 64-64, UTSA got a steal and called timeout with 26.9 seconds left. Michael Hale’s runner in the lane missed and Luke Kraus grabbed the rebound and called timeout with 9.6 seconds left. Jordon Crawford’s step-back 20-foot jumper as time ran out came up just short to send the game to overtime.

In the overtime session, UTSA made 3-of-3 three-pointers, including a pair early to build a seven-point lead. Although the Falcons would score 15 points in the extra five minutes, UTSA made 13-of-16 free-throws to ice the game and come away with the 86-79 win.

Bowling Green shot 43 percent from the floor, compared to 45 percent for UTSA. The Falcons dominated on the boards with a 47-31 advantage, including 18 offensive boards with accounted for a 19-9 edge on second chance points. UTSA negated that, though, with a 20-12 scoring lead on points off of turnovers as the Falcons committed 21 miscues during the game.

The Falcons made eight three-pointers but took 26 attempts, a season-high. That is the most three-point attempts for the program since the team attempted 28 against Ohio in the MAC Tournament on March 7, 2007.

UTSA improves to 7-6 with the win and Bowling Green falls to 6-7, following the team’s final non-conference tune-up before starting Mid-American Conference play. The Falcons will host Ohio, a team receiving votes in the Top 25 polls, Saturday at 6 p.m. in a game televised on SportsTime Ohio. The BGSU women’s basketball team will host Akron in a split doubleheader at noon that day.
